Leatherman Wave Multitool

Built of 100 percent stainless steel, each individual component of the Wave is treated and tempered to achieve the optimum grade hardness for its use.

There are tons of uses for a multi-tool in a boat.  Fishing line needs to be cut, jig eyes need to be punched, and there's always emergency waterside boat maintenance. Many anglers never leave the dock without their trusted multi-tool includingd myself.

In 1975 Tim Leatherman went on a "low budget" trip to Europe. Without much money and an unreliable car, Tim quickly realized that a standard pocketknife wasn't much help for fixing his equipment when things went bad. So after he got back home, he used his engineering background to design a usable pocket tool (after numerous prototypes). In 1983, Tim and Steve Berlinger founded Leatherman Tool Group Inc. with the original Leatherman Tool known as the PST.

It didn't take long after the introduction of the first Leatherman for people to start realizing what useful tools they were. It was a product that all walks of life could utilize from the fireman to the hunter. But it wasn't just the innovative design that kept active people purchasing a Leatherman; it was also the quality materials put into them that made them last.

Since it's early start, Leatherman Tool Group Inc. hasn't been slack. They've worked hard to keep improving their tools and bringing new innovations to the "multi-tool" industry. All those years of tool-building experience and designing are put into their innovative multi-tool the Leatherman Wave

When the Wave came out, I jumped on the bandwagon and purchased one for myself. After carrying the Wave around with me for a while, I realized why it caused such an excitement in the knife and tool industry.

The Wave's wood saw zips through branches with ease.

Built of 100 percent stainless steel, each individual component of the Wave is treated and tempered to achieve the optimum grade hardness for its use. And they are honed and designed to do their job efficiently.

The Wave comes with tools situated on the outside, which I liked a lot because you don't have to open the tool up to use the knife. Two of these blades, the razor-sharp clip-point knife blade and the sheepsfoot serrated blade, have thumbholes for one-hand opening. Twho other blades, a diamond-coated file and a wood/metal file, are also easily accessible without opening the tool. All of the blades have liner locks for safety and one-hand operation.

Inside the Wave is a plethora of useful tools that could keep MacGyver busy for years. Included are: screwdriver, scissors, wire cutters and strippers, 8-inch ruler, can/bottle opener, regular pliers, and one extremely strong set of needle-nose pliers all this in a small 4-inch package that weighs only 8.5 ounces.

Another design element that sets the Wave apart from other "pocket toolboxes" is its comfortable handle. With most tools, the handle is square and doesn't allow you to bear down on it and apply much pressure.  The Wave's handle has rounded edges so it doesn't cut into the hand and feels more like a pocketknife's handle.

Since I've owned my Wave, I've found it to be extremely handy with numerous applications. It's built extremely well with quality steel and was designed to work. The knife is sharp; the wood saw zips through tree branches like they're butter and the scissors can cut through a bottle cap without losing its edge. And for those of you that want even more versatility in your Wave, a kit can be bought separately that includes an attachable adapter with six popular-sized screwdriver bits.
