 50poundscale

A few months ago a friend and I sat down for a few hours of fishing at a local city lake. We loaded up with plenty of catfish dip bait, light rods, and two chairs. We baited, kicked back, and commenced to catching small channel cat one after another. It was just what we expected. In fact I'd left the camera and scale, two items I usually carry everywhere, back at home. The fish have always been small and feisty.

The channel cats bit well into the dark and near the midnight hour, we experienced something we hadn't had happen before -- a rod thrashed ferociously and my friend grabbing and setting the hook in one motion. Instead of the normal hook-and-reel, this time it was hook and hold on. The drag started to scream and we looked at each other with wide eyes.

Something big was on the end of that line and it wasn't happy about coming to the bank. My first thought was if the 6-pound test would hold up or not, but the second thought was what were we going to weigh it with?

Before the fish ever came close enough to see, I picked up my cell phone and called my girlfriend who was long asleep and pleaded for her to bring the fish scale. When she asked which one I blurted out, "The 50-Pound Rapala Digital." It was then she realized I was very serious and she agreed.

The battle ensued for another 15 minutes before a large white flash turned under the flashlight-illuminated water. Shortly thereafter a monster of a channel cat reluctantly was beached. My friend and I ogled the fish until the scale arrived.

Gently we hosted up the cat and the scale flashed until it settled just over 20 pounds. Quickly the channel cat was released back to the murky depths and we gave a quick high-five.

The Rapala Sportsman's 50-pound Digital Scale had saved the day. The scale has a large digital display with a tare weight, making it ideal for tournament situations. It also features a 500-hour battery life with indicator, a 4-minute automatic shutoff function and a stainless steel hook.

We learned one valuable lesson that night -- never underestimate what Mother Nature might hand you and always have a high quality scale on hand to verify what just might be the trophy of a lifetime.
