There is a special spring hunting season that takes place in most parts of the country and it requires no hunting license, camo clothing or special equipment. Your quarry is the delicious morel mushroom which is usually found poking through decaying leaves at the base of trees, around old rotting logs, near creek bottoms and old homesteads. The exact location will vary by where you live. Since some mushrooms are poisonous, make absolutely sure of what you are looking for. I would advise carrying along a pocket-size mushroom identification book or taking along a veteran mushroom hunter. Use a mesh onion sack to bag your game. It will keep your mushrooms fresher and allow spores to be released back into the area insuring future great hunting trips. Sauteed in butter or dipped in an egg and milk mixture then rolled in flour and fried, they're a taste treat that will have you looking forward every year to this special spring hunting season.
