To help you come a little more familiar with what the QDMA does and what they are:

The QDMA's mission is to ensure the future of white-tailed deer, wildlife habitat and our hunting heritage.

Who they are:QDMA

Membership in the QDMA is open to anyone with an interest in the wise management of white-tailed deer. The time has come for all deer hunting enthusiasts, regardless of their choice of weapon or hunting technique, to unite and focus on the common thread that binds them all together - the love of deer hunting and the desire that future generation will be able to experience the great tradition of deer hunting.

What they do:

Quality Deer Management (QDM) is a management philosophy/practice that unites landowners, hunters, and managers in a common goal of producing biologically and socially balanced deer herds within existing environmental, social, and legal constraints. This approach typically involves the protection of young bucks (yearlings and some 2.5 year-olds) combined with an adequate harvest of female deer to maintain a healthy population in balance with existing habitat conditions and landowner desires. This level of deer management involves the production of quality deer (bucks, does, and fawns), quality habitat, quality hunting experiences, and, most importantly, quality hunters.

QDMA new membership benefits

  • A subscription to Quality Whitetails (six issues per year)
  • Discounts on QDMA merchandise and deer management equipment
  • Opportunities to participate in a QDMA Branch and attend deer management seminars and short courses
  • New 1-yr. members receive A basic guide to Quality Deer Management booklet and Developing Successful QDM Cooperatives booklet and a vehicle decal
  • New 3-yr. members receive an exclusive Primo’s grunt call with the QDMA logo and a

Gone Fishing 2016

“Gone Fishing” program to inspire a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts

June 11 - June 19

2016

Bass Pro Shops today announced “Gone Fishing,” a major new program to introduce people of all ages, especially urban youth and children overly-focused on their digital devices, to fishing as a gateway to discovering the outdoors.

The national program encompasses a variety of significant initiatives designed to introduce audiences that haven’t been exposed to outdoor recreation, and inspire experienced anglers to pledge their support and join the fishing movement this summer. The sweeping activities include hosting in-store events, collaborating with Major League Baseball teams across the country, tapping into the star power of professional athletes and celebrities, partnering with local and national nonprofits and leveraging social media to raise awareness.

Bass Pro Shops today announced “Gone Fishing,” a major new program to introduce people of all ages, especially urban youth and children overly-focused on their digital devices, to fishing as a gateway to discovering the outdoors.

“Bass Pro Shops is committed to inspiring more young people to get to know and love the outdoors,” said Stan Lippelman, vice president of marketing for Bass Pro Shops. “In fact, 100,000 people caught a fish at a Bass Pro Shops last year alone, many for the first time. We hope to expand this by offering additional free, easy opportunities to introduce kids and teens to fishing. Once they catch their first fish, we know they’ll be hooked.”

In addition to creating the next generation of conservationists, fishing also offers a variety of personal benefits.

“Fishing offers kids and kids-at-heart the opportunity to put down our devices and experience the outdoors together to bond with our families, connect with nature and get some exercise,” Lippelman said.

“Gone Fishing” offers opportunities for people of all ages and skill levels to get involved

Bowfishing Tournament at the Pyramid

The U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship, a new breed of fishing tournament and the largest event of its kind, is expanding and relocating to a new home in 2016, the iconic Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid in Memphis. This year’s event will be held July 8 – 10 and features the largest competition and biggest prizes in the tournament’s four-year history.

Teams can register online at www.basspro.com/usopen on Monday, March 28 beginning at 8 AM CST. There is a $300 entry fee per team and participation is limited to 300 teams of two-four. Registration is expected to sell out within hours of opening and participants are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.

“With our largest prize packages ever and an incredible new venue along the banks of the Mississippi River, this year’s championship promises to be the biggest and best yet,” said John Paul Morris, an avid bowfisherman and an emerging figure in the sport’s explosive popularity.

The championship purse includes more than $100,000 worth of prizes and giveaways. The first place team will receive $25,000 in cash with each member receiving a U.S. Open Edition Oneida Osprey Bow. The winner of the biggest fish harvested wins $5,000 and everyone that registers is automatically entered for a chance to win a new Tracker 1860 Sportsman Bowfishing Boat.

The Great American River Cleanup

Bowfishing, which combines elements of fishing with archery to harvest rough fish species, is one of the fastest growing sports in the outdoor industry. Unlike traditional game fishing, bowfishing uses specialized bows to target species that plague lakes, rivers and streams around the country. Removing these undesirable species improves habitat conditions for native game fish. This year’s tournament targets only nonnative species of carp including common, grass, silver and bighead species.

Silver and bighead carp, sometimes referred to as Asian carp, are invasive species that pose a significant threat to the nation’s economy and environment. First introduced to managed ponds in the 1970s, the fast-producing fish are now plaguing natural waterways and competing directly with our native game fish.

State and federal government agencies are spending more than $70 million to stop the spread of Asian carp this year alone, and the Army Corps of Engineers estimates efforts to stop the species from contaminating the Great Lakes region could cost $18 billion. Many biologists and economists believe commercial and recreational fishing efforts – including bowfishing – can help mitigate a potentially devastating ecological collapse within the Great lakes.

All invasive fish harvested from the event are used to produce organic liquid fertilizer in partnership with northwestern Illinois-based Schaffer Fisheries. The process maintains the hormones, vitamins, enzymes, amino acids and minerals to produce high-quality natural plant food.

Special Activities and Events

The Pyramid will display custom bowfishing boats from across the country along with vendor booths and free seminars featuring past champions. Attendees can also meet their favorite outdoor TV show hosts and enjoy music, events and games, all housed inside Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid, one of the most dynamic and immersive retail experiences in the world. Throughout the weekend customers can take advantage of great deals on the latest name-brand bowfishing gear.

RMEF Donation Month

“Ten years ago, Bass Pro founder Johnny Morris established the RMEF -Elk Country Conservation Month, throughout its North American stores. We want to give our customers the opportunity to contribute to the RMEF and its great mission: to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage. During the entire month of August Bass Pro Shops’  costumers have the opportunity to round up their purchases to support the conservation efforts of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Mr. Morris also established a matching donation program from Bass Pro to RMEF. We donate an additional 50% of the cumulative customer donations during the entire month of August.”

Director of Conservation

Boy Scout Donation Month

Bass Pro Shops is once again showing its support for the Boy Scouts of America by hosting Boy Scout Month this September at Bass Pro Shops stores across the country. Throughout the month, Bass Pro Shops will promote Boy Scouts of America, offer merit badge classes, and provide opportunities to raise funds for Scouting projects.

“At Bass Pro Shops, we feel strongly about the need to support efforts that focus on youth development and education,” said Stan Lippelman vice president of marketing for Bass Pro Shops and board member for the Ozark Trails Council. “The Boy Scouts of America provides us with a great opportunity to help train the next generation of leaders and conservationists. For thousands of boys, their first experience with fishing, archery, shooting, camping and conservation are a result of their involvement in Scouting.”

During September, 55 Bass Pro Shops stores across the country will offer customers an opportunity to donate $2 or $5 to the Boy Scouts of America. A chance to win $500, $250 or $100 Bass Pro Shops gift cards is available to those who complete an entry form. At the end of the promotion, 50 percent of the money collected will be donated to the National Council while the remaining 50 percent will be given to designated local councils. In 2012, nearly 50,000 people donated to the Boy Scouts of America during Bass Pro Shops’ Boy Scout Month. Bass Pro Shops also makes a contribution for each donation made.

Throughout September, merit badge classes covering fishing and rifle shooting also will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 53 participating Bass Pro Shops stores.* Class size is limited so students should call their nearest Bass Pro Shops store and register over the phone.

“The Boy Scouts of America is excited to continue its partnership with Bass Pro Shops. The designation this September as “Boy Scout Month” by Bass Pro Shops is a great way to share Scouting’s story as well as a significant way to generate financial support for local and national Scouting programs,” said Ronald Timmons, director of national corporate alliances at Boy Scouts of America. “In addition, the in-store merit badge program is a helpful resource for Scouts that may not have been able to work on their fishing or rifle shooting badges this summer and at the same time fosters a connection with our members and their families that the local Bass Pro Shop and its team of outdoor experts are a year-round resource ready to support them with a backyard campout or an adventure of a lifetime.”
