Kevin Costner Selects Springfield to Introduce His Newest Movie and to Support Local Community
July 2, 2008

Springfield, Missouri  (July 1, 2008) - The tag line for Kevin Costner's new movie, "Swing Vote", is "one ordinary guy is giving the candidates a reason to run."  Now Costner's appearance in Springfield for the first worldwide preview showing of "Swing Vote" will give locals a reason to donate to some very worthy causes.

This popular actor, musician, producer and Academy Award-winning director will make a special appearance in Springfield, Missouri, Sunday, July 6th as part of a fundraising event hosted by Bass Pro Shops to benefit the Upper White River Basin Foundation and the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks.

Tickets will be available for purchase to the first 250 people who call in through a special 800 number (1-800-646-3474) for $250. The ticket price includes a special VIP "Meet and Greet" reception with Costner at Bass Pro Shops White River Room on Sunday, July 6th from 5-6:30 p.m. and ticket to worldwide movie screening which will take place the movie which at the Campbell 16 Cine Theater from 7-9 p.m.

Costner is an avid fisherman, long time customer of Bass Pro Shops and friend of  Bass Pro Shops founder, Johnny Morris and wife, Jeanie.  Costner wears a Bass Pro Shops cap in many scenes of the movie and wanted to kick off, Swing Vote, here in Springfield.

In "Swing Vote," Costner portrays Bud Johnson, a laid-back, beer-swigging, good 'ole boy whose one vote will determine the election of the next president of the United States.    The movie will be released August 1st and is a Walt Disney Pictures production distributed by Touchstone Pictures.

"We are extremely grateful to Kevin Costner for his generosity in making a difference in our community," says Martin MacDonald, Bass Pro Shops' Director of Conservation. "His appearance will enhance the health of our water and the health of our citizens with a screening of his movie that will benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks and the Upper White River Basin Foundation."

The Upper White River Basin Foundation is a certified not-for-profit organization whose mission is to protect water quality in the upper White River watershed through research, education, public policy and action projects.  They rely solely on grant funding and donations from individuals, businesses, and governments.

The Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks provides resources and support for those individuals and their families in the local area who are affected by breast cancer.  They, too, are a non-profit organization and rely solely on grants and private funding.

An excellent athlete, sports enthusiast and all-around outdoorsman, Kevin also performs and tours regularly with his rock/country band "Modern West."
