100 Percent Real Hunting Show From Bass Pro Shops

If you're tired of watching re-created hunting scenes and set-up videos, then there's a new option for you. Bass Pro Shops' 100% Real Hunting TV has a unique format that features 100% authentic hunts filmed just the way they happened in the field.

 

Unlike most hunting TV shows that feature re-created scenes for the camera, Bass Pro's new hunting show will show only authentic events that occurred and were filmed as they happened on the hunt.

 

"This is a dramatic departure from typical hunting TV," says Jerry Martin Bass Pro's Hunt Team Captain.

 

Almost all hunting TV films their shows with one camera following the hunt. This makes it necessary to re-create parts of the hunt like the shot, the recovery, and most footage showing the hunter in action. This results in some pretty uncomfortable hunters and some pretty unauthentic TV.

 

"The new TV format eliminates all acting and all staged re-creations. The secret is using two cameras. One shadows the hunter while another films the game and the hunt in general. Our hunters just have to hunt; the cameras do the rest," Martin says.

 

Bass Pro's hunting show will sport a new name in 2008 (Bass Pro's 100% Real Hunting TV) to call attention to the shows realism and uniqueness. As in past years it will feature the Redhead Pro Hunting Team hunting across the globe. Unlike other shows, it will not feature pro hunters attempting to be actors.

 

"Hunting with two cameras is pretty tough," says Hunt Team member Bob Foulkrod. "It's like a small posse going through the woods, but it's working. The camera shadowing the hunter has gotten some pretty incredible footage, which will make some great TV.

 

"It's amazing what you can learn from 100% authentic shots. I've picked up things I was doing I never realized I did until I saw myself on the new show. I'm picking up hunting tips from studying the footage of the other Pro Team hunters. This is going to make a big difference in how the public views hunting TV."

 

Bass Pro, which has been working on the project for the past couple of years, believes the outcome is well worth the effort.

 

Steve Hargis, Bass Pro's Director of Productions says, "Our Pro Team hunters have always disliked doing re-creations. They didn't like 'faking it.' Our viewers have been looking for more realistic hunting TV, we just had to figure out how to give it to them.

 

"Test audiences have been very excited about what they have seen. They are picking up on small things like eye movements, body language, and raw emotion. Stuff you would never see on re-created video. Realism draws audiences into the hunt and keeps them there. They are not distracted by awkward scene changes and re-creates. Our new format is a 100% improvement. It's good for our audience and it's good for hunting."
