FONTANA, CA (Feb. 25, 2008) -- Martin Truex Jr. finished sixth in Monday's Auto Club 500, an event that finished almost 24 hours after it began because of rain throughout the region.
The wet weather moved in on Friday, canceling qualifying. Because the starting lineup would be based on 2007 NASCAR Sprint Cup owner's points, Truex started the event in 11th. Weather continued to be a factor in the 250-lap event, delaying the start for three hours. The sporadic rain would cause numerous caution periods, with the final yellow flag being flown on lap 81. Extensive track drying efforts were begun, but to no avail. NASCAR officials decided to bring the teams back on Monday for the completion of the race.
Truex restarted the event in seventh. He soon reported a loose condition with the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet. Crew chief Kevin Manion and the team began making adjustments, hoping to find the proper balance for the car.
The Dale Earnhardt Inc. Chevrolet gradually responded to the changes and Truex was able to bring the car home with his first top-10 finish of the season.
"It was a good day all the way around for us," Truex said. The guys made good adjustments throughout the day and our engine was really strong.
"Our pit stops were incredible all day. Even with all the adjustments we were making, we were beating people off pit road. I'm really pround of my crew - they were 'on it' every stop."
Truex is currently 12th in NASCAR Sprint Cup points.
