Rossford Ohio Holds a Groundbreaking!
August 27, 2007

GROUNDBREAKING EVENT SIGNALS CONSTRUCTION STARTED ON OHIO'S SECOND BASS PRO SHOPS

Rossford, Ohio-- Bass Pro Shops representatives and members of the Wood County Economic Development Commission held a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony for media and invited guests, Thursday, August 30th for the new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World beginning construction in Rossford.

Bass Pro Shops acquired 225 acres of land at the intersection of the nation's longest north/south interstate-Interstate 75-and east/west interstate-the Ohio Turnpike 80/90.  The development, Crossroads of America, is being touted by retail experts to become one of Ohio's largest retail/tourist destinations with a projection of over 6 million visitors per year.  Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World stores are considered 'destination' locations and their 44 stores see more than 90 million visitors a year with most of the stores being that state's #1 tourist attraction.

The 150,000 square-foot outdoor store, equivalent in size to 3 and 1/2 football fields, is tentatively scheduled to open June of 2008.

Wood County Economic Development Director Tom Blaha hailed the arrival of Wood County's newest corporate citizen, recognizing the role that Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World will play, not just for Rossford, but for all of Northwest Ohio and the western Lake Erie basin.  An outdoorsman himself, Blaha characterized the new Bass Pro Shops facility as the "jewel in the crown" of the region's outdoor interests-complementing such long-time attractions as the Maumee River's annual walleye run, the National Rifle and Pistol matches, and the excellent deer hunting which collectively bring legions of outdoor enthusiasts to the area.

"Wood County and the City of Rossford are honored to be the address of such a wholesome and desirable facility," said Blaha.

Regarded as part museum, part art gallery, part education, conservation and entertainment center the Rossford store will offer some of the same signature features of other Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World stores. However, as typical in stores in other geographic locations, this newest Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World-their second in Ohio--will be uniquely designed to pick up the local flavor of the area's outdoor heritage and include state record fish and wildlife exhibits and historical pictures and artifacts from local hunters and fishermen.

One of the main focal points of the store will be the large, 3-story waterfall and 25,000 gallon aquarium and touch pool which will showcase native fish that Rossford and area sportsmen and women love to catch.  Hand painted murals and museum-quality wildlife dioramas will be located throughout the store.

Other special features planned include a 25-yard live fire archery range, a general store, laser arcade, a fudge shop and a White River Fly Shops department. The store will also feature a sandwich shop and a Cold Stone Creamery.

Water features and retention areas outside along the west side of the building will be utilized for exterior boat display as well as educational opportunities.

"We are excited about bringing Bass Pro Shops to the corner of 'Main and Main' here in Rossford," said Bass Pro Shops President Jim Hagale.  "We believe this highly visible and accessible location will allow us to better serve our many customers and the many outdoor enthusiasts that visit and live in this beautiful area of the country."

Rudolph/Libbe Inc., a Walbridge-based general contractor, is the construction company responsible for building the new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World store.  "As a Wood County employer, we are very pleased to be part of this significant project," said Tim Alter, president of nationally ranked general contractor, Rudolph/Libbe.  "Our associates and local subcontractor associates are not only anxious to construct this retail shop, they are looking forward to bringing their friends and families to shop and experience this outstanding center."

Officials attending the special event included Bass Pro Shops Director of Conservation Martin Mac Donald, State Senator Randy Gardner, State Representative Robert Latta, Rossford Mayor William Verbosky, Wood County Economic Development Commission Executive Director Tom Blaha, Wood County Commissioners Jim Carter, Alvin Perkins, Tim Brown and United States Representative Paul Gillmor.

Bass Pro Shops visitors will be able to purchase most everything they need while visiting and enjoying the outdoor opportunities in the Rossford area by shopping selections of fishing, hunting, camping and marine items and by visiting clothing, gift and footwear departments.  The store will also feature an expansive boat showroom featuring Tracker, Nitro, Tahoe and Mako boats all built by Tracker Marine Group-the world's largest manufacturer of fishing boats.

Recognized many times for their conservation efforts and outdoor education programs, Bass Pro Shops will staff approximately 250-300 associates from the area that have a passion for the outdoors so customers will be assured of getting local skilled, knowledgeable assistance with product selections and questions.  The store will also offer free Outdoor Skills Workshops for adults, kids and families that will help maximize outdoor fun by teaching new skills and improving existing ones.

"Our company has won more awards for our conservation efforts than any other outdoor retailer in America," commented Director of Conservation for Bass Pro Shops Martin Mac Donald.  "Bass Pro Shops' commitment to environmental stewardship will be evident in every aspect of the Rossford site design to the interior of the store and especially in our community involvement where we will work with local conservation efforts to help preserve our outdoor traditions for future generations."
