Cold weather bass demand specific baits. Thin metal blade baits are prime frigid weather offerings. Blades are great for ledge hopping, probing channel edges and walking down points. Slab spoons are good for jiggling and hopping right in front of a lethargic winter bass.
Big lipped crank baits that dive 15 to 30 feet can work wonders if you find bass in semi-aggressive feeding mood. Smooth and steady often works best but also try pauses and twitches near cover.
Jigs and grubs are among the best winter bass lures. They can be worked extremely slow, right on, or just off the bottom. Jerk baits are good on warm, sunny days when bass move into more moderate depths.
Spinner baits can be deadly in winter. Let it flutter down, settle and then slow roll it back and get ready for a bite from a cold weather bass.
