I know you've done it before -- I know I have. You've got a rod set up, and you're trolling for walleye at your local lake. You're lazily watching your rod tip and eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Suddenly, the rod bounces; then goes still. You shoot out of your seat like a rocket, but you've already missed the strike.
Lets think of another scenario. It's nighttime and you've got a plethora of rods rigged up for blue catfish. You're sitting there eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and once again lazily eyeballing your rod tips. All the sudden two of your rod tips start bouncing as a blue takes a lick of your fresh shad. If you're anything like me, you can't decide which one to go for, so you end up losing both fish.
Well, a brand new product last year has given us anglers a little help in the hookset department. The Lightnin' Strike Rod Holder is the perfect companion to any fisherman that likes to troll, bank fish, or spider rig and set up a lot of poles.
This unique holder is spring-loaded under adjustable tension; when a fish hits, the motion trips the cocking mechanism, snapping the rod tip up and back for an instantaneous, hookset. The adjustable trigger mechanism is a neat feature that lets the angler set the sensitivity. You can set it anywhere from a hair-trigger (for those crappies' light bites) to a trolling-with-heavy-tackle setting. The Lightnin' Strike can be used successfully on a wide range of fishing species and under an even wider range of fishing conditions. It can be used with any rod/reel type. And to mount it to your boat, it fits any DriftMaster Lil' Pro mounting base.
The Lightnin' Strike design allows the fisherman to quickly pick up the rod from the holder and handles both light and heavy rods. When a fish triggers the hook set mechanism, the spring-action sweeps the rod tip upward and firmly sets the hook in the fish. The spring action also then serves to cushion the rod and provides added pressure and "plays" the fish while the angler moves into position to pick up the rod.
There is an optional Ground Stake Kit available which adapts the Lightnin' Strike to bank fishing by simply driving the stake into the ground and placing the rod holder into the top of the stake tube. The Ground Stake kit is sold in pairs and features a heavy rust-resistant Teflon coating.
