For years, the Johnny Morris Signature Series Baitcast Reel was the flagship of Bass Pro Shops' casting reel lineup. Over the years, the signature model received accolades from fishing periodicals, tackle reviewers and -- most importantly -- individual anglers. Building on the success of that reel, the Johnny Morris "Elite" was released in 2007 and quickly emerged as the preeminent baitcast reel in the Bass Pro Shops lineup. Since its introduction, the Elite has quickly become the rival to some of the finest, most respected casting reels in the tackle industry.
Chip-proof and scratch-resistant titanium deposition finish
The Johnny Morris Elite is a high-speed casting reel with a 6.4:1 gear ratio and 28-inches of line recovery per handle turn. This high-speed retrieve gets your lure back to the boat quickly once it has past through the strike zone, helping you eliminate unproductive water. The super-light, super-hard aircraft-grade aluminum drive gearing and crankshaft deliver strength and perfect synchronization, while also minimizing overall reel weight, and overall reel weight comes out to a mere 8.6 ounces. Underneath the striking cobalt-blue exterior is an 11 bearing system with 10 double-shielded stainless steel bearings and PowerLock instant anti-reverse.
 Externally adjustable Dual Braking System
Anytime I'm able to take out a new reel and make precise casts as though I've fished the reel for years, I know I'm holding something special. One thing helping to eliminate the learning curve is the reel's Dual Braking System. Simply put, this system is designed to maximize your casting distance while minimizing backlashes. To achieve this, the spool speed is controlled by a 6-pin centrifugal brake during the beginning of the cast; then, as the spool slows, the magnetic brakes take over to "feather" your cast perfectly.
10 double-shielded stainless steel ball bearings
The Elite's external braking adjustment system and spool tension knobs make fine tuning the reel for baits differing in weight a quick and easy task. As you switch to a heavier or lighter lure, simply make the proper adjustments to the brakes and spool using the adjustment knobs located on the outside of the reel.
Up to 14-pounds of drag pressure
The Elite is equipped with a powerful drag system calibrated to produce up to 14-pounds of drag pressure -- more than enough to stop a bass from running under the boat or turn the most tenacious fighter. The Elite uses 3 stainless steel and 3 carbon washers on an oversized gear plate to deliver smooth pressure at any setting.
 Titanium coated line guide
The "guts" of a reel are what truly counts, though. With super-hard, lightweight Duralumin gears, the Elite has some of the best guts a reel can have. In addition to brawn, the Elite is absolutely stunning too. It has a striking cobalt-blue titanium deposition finish that's bonded directly to the aluminum side-plates, making the finish chip-proof and scratch-resistant.
 Machined-aluminum drilled spool
The Elite is a top-quality reel loaded with impressive features and top-notch components. It is a joy to cast, and its low-profile design fits well in the palm. The Dual Braking and external adjustment capabilities make this an easy reel to use for the casual angler, while the competitive anger will appreciate the minimal time required to fine-tune the reel while on the water using the external controls.
