The Ruger® Bisley™ Single Action Revolver's ability to absorb recoil makes it a favorite handgun for big game hunting. Ruger designers spent a great deal of time studying the grip designs of the original Colt® Bisley and the famous Keith No. 5 from the early part of the 20th Century, and blended the advantages of both into what is one of most comfortable grip designs imaginable. The front strap of the Ruger Bisley grip is long enough to accommodate 3 normal size fingers, providing the shooter a solid grip that spreads recoil over a large area; yet the grip is not so large that an average size hand cannot control it well. The shooter's little finger does not "hang" below the Bisley grip as it does with the traditional single action revolver design, and the Bisley revolver does not have the same tendency to pivot in the shooter's hand when firing, as it does with the traditional design. Like the original Colt Bisley grip, the Ruger grip is easier to hold consistently from shot to shot, and facilitates precise shooting from the offhand position. The Bisley model also has a lower Bisley-style hammer spur that is easy to reach with the thumb, and a round target trigger.

The Ruger Bisley uses the same cylinder frame as the Ruger Blackhawk® which is the safest and most rugged Single Action Revolver made. The Blackhawk uses Ruger's transfer bar ignition system, allowing the shooter to carry the revolver safely with all 6 chambers loaded. Ruger also uses coil springs in their single action revolvers for extra power and durability. The Ruger Bisley Single Action Revolver has a rear sight that is click adjustable for both windage and elevation, and is protected by integral frame topstrap ribs. The front sight is an improved Partridge type that provides a good sight picture, and allows for snag-free withdrawal from holsters. The Ruger Bisley is a well designed, reliable revolver ideal for rugged outdoor use, big game hunting, and target shooting.
