I would reccomend this slate. It is easy to use and produces good sound for purrs, cuts and yelps.

You can get good tones from this product. However a portion of the slate was cracked and needs to be avoided when calling. Sound far more realistic than my box call.

I just picked this up today and absolutely love it. Very easy to use, great striker, and very loud and raspy.......oooohhhh yeaaaaaaaaa!

yes, sand paper, or scotch brite pads work well and if your striker tip gets polished over time you can clean it tooA:Â
Yes you can. As a contest caller, and hunter, I will NOT use sandpaper. That over time will ruin the slate. I prefer to use scotchbrite pads. The green, maroon, and gray pads all work great. I prefer to start with green then use gray.A:Â
I don't see why not, anything to give you an advantage! If you find that roughing more works better for you to get the sound you need then that's what works. Plus, they're reasonably priced to have a spare on hand anyway.1 of 1
