by msteudel Great for small kids
I bought this for my daughters 3yr birthday. She's on the small size (10th percentile in most things), so the short rod length helps her easily manage the rod.
It took her about 15 - 20 minutes to get the hang of casting. Now she can cast it 10 - 12 ft all by herself.
Yeah it's not the best reel in the whole world. It does tangle some, but is very easy to untangle. The rod itself seems quite durable.
I do dislike that you can't get one of these without some sort of commercial branding on it ... but oh well, eventually we'll get out of these sorts of rods.

I don't know why people don't enjoy using this pole with their kids. My daughter and I bought this on a whim because it was funny and we wanted to show everyone you don't need high speed gear to catch fish. We caught a ton of fish on this and the thing worked just fine. We even caught a few 2 lb bass out of the lake I used to fish. No, its not an amazing drag or super smooth action but the thing works! Change the line to PLine as I do with all spincast reels and you won't have any trouble. Now my 2 year old loves it and uses it as a broom, sword, you name it! NEARLY INDESTRUCTIBLE!

We had tried getting these little outfits through more than one trip and it's been a no go. Since they operate on the rough side it's possible a child might get frustrated and just give up. If one of these is purchased for a youngster be close at hand to help with gear problems.
