This is a great reel for the price, the rod is okay but you can pair this reel with any decent rod and have akiller combo. This reel will out fish $ 200.00 spinning reels if you throw sot plastics. the 6.3.1 gear ratio is exactly the right speed for bass.it handles worms,brushhogs.craws.kreature baits anything plastic. The rod however will cause you to miss hook-ups because it has no backbone, change rods and you are ready to go. 5 stars for the reel all-day long.

Would this be a good rod for a 12-year-old beginner? Would it be appropriate for bay fishing?

THE BEST FOR 1 DURABILITY 2 EASY TO USE 3 EASY TO FIX AND JUST THE BEST.. I CANT THROW A BAITCASTER TO SAVE MY LIFE BUT I GOT 9 ZEBCO 33'S WORTH ANYWHERE FROM $35-$100 A PIECE....A:Â
excellentA:Â
Good for Bay fishing with stronger line, I reline with 20lb test upon arrival. I would say it would be great for a average 12 year old. If he/she is small and never cast before, the number eleven Zebco reel would be better with a ultra-light rod just for learning. When I was a kid just learning. I practiced in the yard with a heavy dummy lure (no hooks) and this got me ready to be around others.A:Â
Best rod and reel I can think of for a 12 year old, great for beginners and adults alike. Should do well under bay fishing conditions.Details:Â
It comes with 10 lb test but can I use heavier line on it?Answers
A:Â
OH YEA IVE GONE SO FAR AS TO PUT 20LB-30LB LINE ON. IT STILL CAST LIKE A CHAMP. I TOOK IT OFF NOW I USE 14LB-12LB ON ALL MY ZEBCOS. 9 TO B EXACT.A:Â
You might be able to put heavier line on it, but if you're going to go with much heavier line (17-20 pound test or higher) it'd be better to go with the Zebco733, which is made to handle that heavier line.A:Â
I usually reline with 20lb test upon arrivalA:Â
Yes you can but the larger the line diameter the less line it will holdDetails:Â
