Rated 5 out of 5 by Very nice Zebco This is a great reel by Zebco I converted mine to just a straight fishing reel for right now and this baby casts and retrives line like a champ, this guy is very inexpensive and does a very good job of what it was intended to do, casts a very long ways and retrives line perfectly, I don't know if alot of you were old enough to remember how bad Zebco reels use to be, back in the early 60s you would be casting your Zebco and the whole unit would just fall apart in your hands at the most inopertune moment like getting a strike or half way through your retrival of your fish, these guys have made vast improvements I am very happy with Zebco these days I own two of these 808s, if this is the type of fishing or bow fishing you want to do this reel is the perfect choice.. Rated 4 out of 5 by Bowfishing I took this reel straight out of the box, and to the lake. my intention was to shoot a paddlefish but the sky was a bit gray so spent 12 hours pulling in carp from 10 to 40 pounds. landed about 80 fish. only prob i found was that the drag was hard to turn and needed to be turned up quite a bit, but after i got it tight, reeling them in was good. thanks jason -montana July 13, 2008

It attaches to a real seat that you also buy. The real seat screws into where you would typically mount a stabilizer.

This Bowfisher reels intended use is for fishing with a bow and arrow. It comes equipped with 80 lb test Dacron Line instead of mono filament. The normal fishing versions of the 808 come with 20 lb test mono filament line.

Do not be confused by the model number. There are different variations of the Zebco 808 reel.

For the best possible performance from any reel. It is normally best to stick with the type and size line that the company that made the reel rated it for. One size smaller line usually works fine.

Two of the variations that I own. One variation is assembled for salt water fishing. Another has a few less features and was intended for fresh water catching catfish. Both have all metal gears and bearings rather than bushings.

For even heavier use the Zebco 888 is also available. The 888 comes with 25 lb test mono filament line.

With proper maintenance these are reels that should survive hard use and some abuse for many years.
