Rated 2 out of 5 by zebco 733 Reel seems durable enough, but it makes ton of noise when reeling. It is also very heavy. I'm going to return it because there's no reason for a reel that is new out of the box to be making that amount of noise. February 29, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Watched in use I bought this reel for salt water fishing after watching a man fish with his. He caught a 54# Black Drum and landed it within seconds. I set mine up exactly the same. I already had the 7' Shakespeare medium action Sturdy Stik rod like he was using. 1st time out (yesterday) with the setup. 2 Red Drum (22" & 25"), 1Speckle Trout (19") 2 Sheephead (12" & 15", 12 Sand Trout (10-12"), & 9 Golden Croaker (12"+). Out of the bubble pack, the line would not come out of the reel. Took it apart and found the line wrapped up in the gears. No problems since then. I will keep it washed down and lubed after each use since I use it in salt water, and it should out live me. October 12, 2011

A:
Zebco spincast reels will fish well with braided line. Be careful not to exceed the line weight specification by more than double what the reel is designed to handle. You will need to also make sure you put a mono backing on the spools first as they are not braid ready spools. If you use braid, make sure the rod is able to handle braid and the line weight you are using.

Looking for a good all around rod for this reel, mostly for smaller catfish, and a back up rod. Would a 6'6" Berkley Cherrywood medium do?
