Zebco 404 Spincast Reel
This reel is amazing in every way. Easy to use. The cast are really good, and smooth. Never really have a problem with it tangling up. Even my kids can't get it all tangled up. This is an all around great reel. Especially for night fishing. Once the bait clicker and drag are set, not catching a fish is almost impossible. I have uses it on many a night. After long waits of no bites, i have fallen asleep. Just to be woken up to the clicker screaming as the fish swam for dear life. But the 404 was to much for the thief in the night. The easy to set hook took place and the following battle took all of ten minutes or less. The outcome was me " bringing em to the surface". This reel has battled through channel cats, to many carp to count, blue gills, turtles and even shovel head catfish. This reel serves as one of my many front line tools with my battles against bigger and bigger opponents.

Got off to good start.
On one of the first casts with our new Zebco 404 reel, my 10 year grand daughter hooked a 26 ", 7.0 pound channel cat fish off the dock where we fish at Lake Murray in Chapin, S.C. She couldn't reel in the large cat fish so I got the honor and enjoyed the performance of the Zebco 404 reel__reminded me of the good old days in the early and mid 1970s when I first learned to fish__I think the reel may have been a Zebco 202__the Zebco reels were good then and they are still good now.

My first reel was a Zebco 404 so I started my daughter fishing with a 404. We fish salt water so this is her second 404. I use an open face reel and tried teaching her the different styles of reels. She insists she catches as much fish as anyone else and is more comfortable using this reel. Zebco made a great reel back then and still does today at a very reasonable cost.

I got my first 404 when I was about 9 when I graduated from my 202. I loved it. I still use one from to time. When lubricated well, they operate pretty smoothly, and cast wonderfully with 1/2 oz or more of weight. At least for me. Only thing I don't like on this reel is the drag. But, for a $12 Reel, it's a great investment. Great to introduce kids to fishing on.
