best reel for your money i have had this reel for 2 years works great no problems overall worth every penny you spend July 21, 2014
Cant beat price!! i bought 2 My first fishing reel when I was a kid was a spincasting Zebco, so naturally when I had kids I did as my father did and got my son an zebco this is a great fishing reel very easy to use for kids and adults. Great for first timers young and old will last for years. it comes spooled with 10lb test don't know brand line , I re spooled with better line after third cast it bird nested on me after that no problems I use for panfish and small 2lb catfish my son landed but well built can handle bigger fish. wish drag was a little more sensitive, but only down side I see is its only right hand retrieve February 27, 2014
zebco 202 all potential nothing done yet Bought this reel to test it's mechanics, design, ergonomics, construction and function. So much potential. Could be the best low-priced reel in existence if Zebco did a handful of things without having to use expensive materials or complicate the reel. It's forte is it's simplicity. If the below items were introduced, this reel would rank VERY high in rating: 1. Be left-hand convertible. 2. The single handle be roller-barrel or triangle paddle. 3. Thumb button be simple "L" shape lever, not press- button. 4. Larger line aperture. 5. Muted color (dark green, brown best). 6. Small diameter, tri-star drag. This reel has great qualities not realized due to the absence of the four items above. It's qualities are: 1. Good balance. 2. Sits "back" in the reel seat. 3. Simple, uncomplicated. 4. PRICE!! 5. Good line capacity (design). 6. Sits low. Can't yet recommend this as a gift - Not Yet. If the changes were adopted, I would personally own and use ten of these, rank it 5-stars and recommend everyone to fish with at least one, and recommend that every kid in America should have one - that's right, every single kid in America should own one! Worst Reel Ever This reel is horrible. It barely casts at all tangles all the time and the spool falls out August 17, 2012

This Zebco reel is not yet worth the low cost price.

Try the low cost Shakespeare spincast reels - very, VERY good reels - worth the extra few dollars.

Spincast reels are neat because you can use them on any rod - they will work perfectly well on a spinning rod, for example. I use one on a fly rod, tied and glued to the blank just above handle for
crappie and bluegill fishing.

No, I would probably buy a Shakespeare spincast reel. My friend has one that is 30 years old and still works great.

I would not reccomend the 202 it is a great example of getting what you pay for. Our family has had decent luck with the synergy reels from Shakespeare for just a few dollars more.

A:
All spincast reels twist the line. Every 50-75 casts, remove your tackle, strip off about 100 feet of line and let it blow in the wind or water behind a moving boat. This untwisting will make the reel cast like it has new line. Also, Reel Magic will help spincast reel cast 10-20% further.

As for servicing, an annual drop of light oil in moving parts areas NOT covered with grease is all that is required.
