This reel is horrible. It barely casts at all tangles all the time and the spool falls out

I bought this for my son to be his first fishing reel ever. Quite an honor for me to do so. Worked fine his first time out caught his first 10 fish on it. Broke the second fishing trip we went on. Will not cast anymore.

I found a rod that needs a reel, the rod isn't that great so I don't want to spend too much to fix it, is this a good reel considering it is only 8 dollars? Thanks!Answers

No, I would probably buy a Shakespeare spincast reel. My friend has one that is 30 years old and still works great.Details:Â

its probably a ball bearing/lubrication problem. i recomend u buy a reel oil and oil it up. that should workA:Â
All spincast reels twist the line. Every 50-75 casts, remove your tackle, strip off about 100 feet of line and let it blow in the wind or water behind a moving boat. This untwisting will make the reel cast like it has new line. Also, Reel Magic will help spincast reel cast 10-20% further. As for servicing, an annual drop of light oil in moving parts areas NOT covered with grease is all that is required.
