Offering the action of a crankbait, the profile of a jig and the flash of a spinnerbait, The Z-Man® Original ChatterBait® will have a profound impact on the way you fish. Designed to swim in an erratic motion that mimics wounded prey, the Original ChatterBait features a unique hex-shaped ChatterBlade® that pivots violently back and forth on the jig eyelet, producing enough vibration to let you feel every pulse. The ChatterBlade also serves as a weedguard to keep the hook from snagging on weeds or brush. The Original ChatterBait's EZ Skirt®, with super tough ElaZtech® Split-Tail TrailerZ™, creates an enticing, undulating action to provoke strikes. Perfect for muddy, stained water, the straight-tracking ChatterBait won't hydroplane on a fast retrieve and its depth is easily regulated.

These things will absolutely catch fish. When the rest of the field is chucking spinnerbaits, the ChatterBait gives fish a different look. I love these things, and always have a rod with one ready to go. However, for such an awesome bait, I have found that the hook component is severely lacking. I recently ordered 10 of them online and when I got them, 4 of the 10 had hooks that needed serious addressing, right out of the package. As a result, I wouldn't buy one unless I had it in my hand and could see the hook first. I have since gone with the Elite version, as they use a MUCH higher quality, sticky sharp Gamakatsu hook, along with a beefier head-to-blade connection. Yes, they are pricier, but you can throw them with more confidence knowing that Gama hook is going to eat. I like to use a Starflash replacement skirt instead of the one it comes with. I also get rid of the twin tail trailer that comes with it and opt for something with a bit more beef/profile. Just a personal preference. Regardless of which one you go with, make sure you throw a trailer hook on it.

Two weeks ago, North Toledo Bend, using the chatter bait - within twenty minutes of each other I caught a 5 and 6 plus lb bass. I always have one tied on.

this bait can truly be fished in any way and still catch fish. the vibrations it produces are very strong and the bass seem to like it. the skirt and trailer give it a nice body and lots of action. bass in my area have a main diet of bluegill and the black and blue version of this bait is a great imitation of that. it even caught me a 20in 4lb largemouth on the first cast.

Yes they do! burn them along prime pike habitat and you will get bit, hard! I guess if you jigged them on a reef for walleye you would get some bighters an dit would be easy to know when you hit bottom in windy conditions:)
Chattbaits will work for Pike like a spinnerbait will, but I would avoid Z-Man. The hooks straighten out with bass and will surely not hold Pike or Walleye. Go with something more substancial like D&M or Revenge available at Tackle Warehouse.
There really is no wrong way - anyplace you'd think to throw a spinnerbait, rattle trap, crank bait or a jig-n-pig, is a good place to throw a chatterbait. They come through the weeds better than a spinnerbait, and have a vibration that rivals any rattletrap/crankbait. A lift and drop is deadly on Lake Champlain largemouth, in place of a jig-n-pig.
Just cast and retrieve. If the fish are kind of sluggish an occasional pause will help the curious followers and not takers. This bait is best in shallower water, but due to its erratic nature, will call fish up from some deeper water.
