I only use this bait when i fish slop and lilies, it works pretty good but i dont get great hooksets with this bait. It works pretty good for walking the dog, I like that it is heavy because it leaves a good imprint when you are dragging it over heavy heavy slop.

I know that this is the very best topwater for slop and thick.heavey cover! I skipped this up under some overhanging willows along the River, even got under a few dock's with 2" clearence. Some people have reveiwed this in the past and complained about, it not staying upright when working it. But all you need is a Mustad ultra lock weighted wide gap hook, works great for me, no Problems! Went home with a pretty good stringer of Bass. And I keep going back!!!

I had bought these because I do a lot of junk fishing on Champlain and these things can go anywhere without getting hung up. If you like to junk fish on top water this bait it what your looking for.

JUNK! might as well tie a football on the end of your line and throw that out there,way over priced, terrible action,and does no float upright.

You texas rig it with a wide gap hook just like you would do a worm or a fluke.

Texas rig it, as illustrated on the package. Would go no smaller than a 5/0 Extra wide gap hook for 3" money hound. I used 5/0 hook and it tended to roll over on retrieve, maybe 6/0 EWG hook is the trick!! Tight lines!!

big hooks are the key. Its an incredibly fat bait but if used right its pretty deadly. I wouldn't trust anything smaller than a 4/0 or so, I usually use at least a 5/0 in fact. A good hook to use is the gamakatsu superline EWG, which has a huge hook gap to compensate for the fatness of this bait. From there, just Texas rig it, weightless of course. If you don't know what that is google it, there are some helpful descriptions.A:Â
I rig it on a 7/0 gama ewg spring lock hook .A:Â
For best results use an Owner 5/0 EWG hook. Start hook in nose and bring it out about 1/4 inch past the nose and then turn the bait 1/4 turn and hook him up through the belly and skin hook it in the back.A:Â
I rigged mine just like I was rigging a worm. Insert hook into the head , come back out about 1/2 inch down....come out to the bottom of the lure ( for it to be weedless ) insert it back in and bring the hook out through the back...I don't like the barb to lay flat on the back of the lure.....let the barb stick up a litle...to be sure when I set the hook...it's going to SET ! No weight....just hook , line and lure !A:Â
Texas Rig It...come thru the baits nose then turn the hook then exit thru the slot on the bottom.Roll the hook over and put it up in the hook slot,bend the bait and penetrate the hook point thru the back of ur bait and just skin hook the hook point.Q:Â

How do i keep the bait from rolling over on op of the water...seems really hard to walk the dog with.

use a heavy hook or even a hook with a small hook in the belly. You can try to crimp split shots on the bottom of the hook too. or stick a nail in the back bottom of the bait.

If you wanted, you could rig it with a weighted swimbait hook so that the weight of the hook keeps it upright. The ones with the screw locks work bestA:Â
at the bottom of the hook underneath the bait wrap lead tape on it and that should solve the problemA:Â
In heavy cover its almost impossable, i keep the pole high and move it slow twitching the pole. It works great. Use heavy braid at least 50lb. and no.6 or 7 EWG hooks and hold on tight you will be amazed whats under there. good luck.Details:Â
There are two sizes. In my previous question, I wasn't specific. Can you tell which hook to use with each of the two sizes?I'd imagine that the 7/0 would be used for the 4" and the 5/0 would be used for the 3"?

Those would be good hooks to use, but not necessary. You can get away with way smaller hooks, I always try to use the smallest hook I can get away with. For the larger one a 5/0 or 6/0 will suffice, the smaller version you might even be able to use a 3/0 but I would probably go with 4/0.

Actually, on the 3", I use a 4/0 offset hook. I doesn't seem to pertrude any where outside the lure.A:Â
I actually used a 6/0 on the 3' because it puts the hook just a bit closer to the tail, and seems to balance the bait well.Details:Â
Would it be the EWG worm hook (which is what I'm thinking) or is it a swimbait hook without a weight?

EWG works well for this bait for me. The EWG has a huge gap, which is great for a big bait like this. Nevertheless, either one of the hooks you speak of would work. ZOOM makes hooks for their frogs that are screw lock hooks to hold the nose but are weightless. Alternatively, a swimbait hook with a weight isn't a bad idea, some people complain that the bait rolls over when they are trying to walk it. If you used a weighted swimbait hook, you would be able to keep it on its belly with the weight on the bottom.

they are heavy but I dont know the exact weight. They cast a loooong ways and I am fishing them on 17lb line on a casting rod/reel.Unbelievably they are very bouyant for their weight.1 of 1
