I bought this for my husband who is an avid fisherman but new to fly fishing. This kit has everything someone needs to get started and is the recommended length and weight for a starter. It's also a popular name brand and they have a great reputation (according to my husband). We are very impressed with the set all the way around, including the over an hour long video that comes with it.

This fly fishing set was delivered in a timely fashion undamaged and contained everything I needed to start fly fishing. The instuction video had me tying the line to the leader and the leader to the fly in no time and learning the basics of casting. To my surprise, casting was much easier than I anticipated. I got the 8 weight rod and can't wait to get out on the flats.

I am a novice and purchased this beginner's set having had no fly fishing experience. I had everything I needed to land a nice rainbow trout on my first day. The video was informative and easy to follow. A brief written explanation of the purpose for each item would have been helpful. I found that I had to watch the video to figure out the purpose and use of some of the items.

I've seen these "kits" before and scoffed when a friend of mine brought this to my house for inspection. I was blown away by the quality of the rod/reel and the video was extremely well put together.
In a sport that can get rather snooty, this is without question the best "bang for buck" for a beginner.
Good luck trying to piece together a similar package for even double the cost!
I fish Sage, Scott and other high end brands and would not hesitate to point a beginner or even a seasoned guy who only gets a few days on the water to this outfit. Nuff said....

Yes, it is very light and the reel is smooth. I would see no trouble in a smaller person, or woman flying this rod.A:Â
It is a lightweight and is good for woman to but the review that put was a little to anticipate the rod is not as good as I think it was and it crash by the tow months of use it so I will recommend cross water redington outfit instead of this one than this one all the other thing of this outfit are good I still are using the reel and is really good and yes it has all dose things but I if you want a rod that will last longer and has guaranty buy the cross water plus the other things you can buy them later and the dvd it wasn't as good you could find in youtube better videos and are freeok
The things you need to learn before going fly fishing you can find them in youtube
three surgeon knot ,clinch knot ,unit knot
how to cast basic cast and roll cast and you are ready to go ok have fun and I hope I was helpful
