Want a high-speed, high-impact load that maintains a tight center pattern at ranges further than you are typically comfortable taking a shot? In 2005, Winchester raised the bar in turkey load performance with the introduction of the Xtended Range line. The tungsten-based shot is 10% more dense than lead and delivers superior downrange performance in terms of core pattern grouping and pellet energy. Consistently round and uniformly smooth shot makes for far fewer flyers from your patterns and results in more pellets being delivered on target. Thousands of gobblers were taken with these loads all over the country during the 2005 spring season. The key to Winchester Xtended Range Hi-Density superior ballistics is the consistent shape, size, weight, and pellet count per ounce of shot. Hi-Density shot consistently provides a high level of performance through tighter patterns and unsurpassed knockdown power. Muzzle velocity of 1225 fps. 10 rounds per box.
Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 41 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Shell I patterned Winchester 6 shot at 50 yrds. Roughly 8 pellets delivered to the kill area using a HS Strut target. I doubled the amount of shot to the head using the Xtended shell in number 6. I have killed turkeys out to 60 steps using this ammo and a Kicks choke. It is expensive but performs well. I hunt hard and an extra 5 or 10 yards is worth the price when needed for me. August 21, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Xtended Range says it All I stumbled onto these shells a few years ago at a local gun shop for $25.00 a box and decided to give them a try. I'm hooked!!! I have tried many different HTL offerings but these have proven themselves in the field time and time again and have posted the most consistent numbers on paper as well. My SBE 2 with a Indian Creek BDS .665 and my Browning Gold Hunter also using an Indian Creek BDS .665 will regularly print in the 190's in the 10'' circle at forty yards. A friend of mine shoots these shells as well and anchored a bird in Nebraska this year at a lasered 67 yards. We both use the 3.5 inch #6 which is a two ounce offering. They aren't cheap, but after all they are what actually does the killing so give em a try. August 17, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Always use my trusted 2 3/4 12 gauge for turkeys. Remington nitro heavy shot not available anymore. These Winchester's pack a punch. Pancaked my bird at 40 yards. May 16, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice Rounds Used a20 gauge Remington 11-87 with a Primos Jellyhead choke. Would be comfortable shooting a bird at 40 yards. April 25, 2012

I have a Benelli with a Carlson's Turkey Choke rated for lead, copper, and Hevi shot. Would this ammo be ok for that choke?

A:
Should work well with the Carlson choke tube. It is like any ammo and firearms. We have to see what works or patterns best. I believe you will have good results! Especially at extended ranges with this ammo.

A:
Absolutely!! As a matter of fact you can contact Carlson's and have them confirm this as well. The winchester xtended range shot is actually a bit softer "if you will'' than Hevi shot on the hardness scale, so if your choke is Hevi shot approved then you have the green light for shooting these xr's.

A:
It would be fine with that choke. On most of your turkey chokes they ask you not to shoot steel shot out of them. Most of your newer chokes will shoot lead, Hevi-shot or copper but if your not totally sure you can google it and most of the time find your answer.Great hunting and good luck!

A:
Yes, these are weak rounds with soft pellets that won't hurt your choke, but why use target rounds these are intended for shooting clays, and a turkey choke is too tight for that purpose. Put a mod choke in and blast away at the clays.
