Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 62 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Winchester SXZ great idea This concept is great. The training and personal protestion rounds feel identical when fired. I have fired the 40S&W unfortunately; I cannot find the 9mm personal protection in stock at my local Bass Pro. December 29, 2008
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply great Purchased these and fired em through my Beretta 92. They are fantastic. For an experiment I loaded both training and personal protection rounds in the same mag and never noticed the difference. The price and the performance make these great rounds for practice or defense. Besides...they are made by Winchester. November 26, 2008
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Purchase that I Ever Made I tested different self-defense rounds(ie. Hornady Tap and Federal Hydra Shok among a few). With the Hydra Shok my XD40 misfed every shot. The shot group was the same with both the training and self defense, tested the 9mm. For $4 more I shoot the same round that I use during conceal carry. Most 9mm defense rounds cost $18 - 24 with 20 or 25, but with these they cost less with 50 rounds. The ammo companies should have done this a long time ago. August 18, 2008
Rated 5 out of 5 by cant beat the price...or performance finally someone has put out both training rounds and personal protection rounds that shoot the same , couldnt believe how similar these rounds shot to each other as well as keeping cleaning time down was really surprised at how much cleaner they shot as compared to other brands . It is good if the bullets shoot good out of your gun, but that doesn't mean anything if the bullets don't perform when you get in that gun fight. You don't want bullets exploding or breaking apart when hitting a bulletproof vest when it isn't supposed to. You need something that will do it's job. Can you buy the ballistics gel to find out how bullets perform?

During practice, I've fired them into sand filled plastic containers, into phone books, and they've expanded without really fragmenting. Very happy with the personal protection rounds.

A:
Get a bunch of empty milk cartons (2 gallon) and fill them with gelatin (make the gelatin in the cartons, put them in the fridge for hours until it is ready). Line them all up in a straight line, fire a round from about 10 yards out right through the center of the first one, and then go find where the bullet stopped and you will be able to see the mushrooming

You can buy ballistics gel but it is expensive. You can make your own test material out of wet newspaper bundles. Make sure they are fully waterlogged and then wrap an old shirt or coat around the outside of the bundle. Shoot them from yardage you wish, remembering that most self defense gunfights occur at less than 10 yards. After the shot, dig into the paper bundle to find your bullet and measure the penetration.

For the record, I don't know of any bullet that will fragment when hitting a "bullet proof" vest and I haven't hear any reports of bad guys rountinely wearing them, so no worries for any ammo on that score.

You can buy ballistics gel but it is quite expensive if you don't have an OEM source. Another method is to use wet telephone books as the target and check penetration and frangibility of various mfgs and loads.

There are ways to make the same thing and you have to do some web searching.
Also, I would not always rely so much on ballistic gel testing. You need to go to
the Box Of Truth web site and review what this man has done with ammo that you may have high regards for.
It's and eye opener. Hence the name "the box of truth" (BOT) website.
This will SHOW you what your favorite ammo is capable of doing.
