Although they are heavy, stiff, and extremely hot, they have saved me a great deal of pain and possibly my life a few times! I am a surveyor that is constantly running into problems with snakes. A copperhead bit them the day after I bought them. I was a 2 hour hike from the truck and another 45 minute drive to a hospital. All I felts was the impact of his head and saw two lines of venom run down the leg of the chaps. I can handle heat, being uncomfortable, and "bulky buckles" if it means I got home safe at the end of the day.

They do not get in the way. These chaps are the best that I have worn. Have had other chaps in the past but these are the best. They are comfortable. I can sit, stand, or stoop, and the they do not get in the way.
I read about the buckles getting caught on weeds, etc. I have not found this to be the case here.
I find these chaps to be as advertised, well made and well worth the money.

The actual chap itself seemed to be of good quality. I wore them for a day while clearing out some mesquite and cedar on my lease. It was 101 degrees, and these are definitely not friendly when the temps get that high. The buckles were a non-issue; however, the black strap that you pull the extra lenghts of strap through after getting them adjusted on your belt did rip off before I even got started. No big deal in the big picture. They were somewhat restricting when having to climb back up and down the hill if we needed anything from the supply truck. Again, in cooler temperatures, it probably wouldn't have been a problem as the extra layer would have been welcomed. Luckily, they have not been tested on a big West Texas rattlesnake as of yet.
Bass Pro has great customer service. I ordered the Regular/Regular, but had to take them back for a Husky/Regular because the legs ran smaller than what the size chart showed for my thighs. I ordered online and was able to exchange at the store in Pearland, TX before heading out of town to do some work at the ranch.

Whitewater had a good product when their snakeproof chaps had snaps. Now they have big bulky buckles that get hung up on everything. We use them for rabbit hunting with alot of briars thorns etc. A bad decision. Looks like I'll change brands. Be careful and look at the picture close before ordering and you'll see. I didn't.

Offers full protection below the knee, single layer protection up thighs. I haven't tested the upper section, but they helped while cutting mesquite and brush as well.

i dig gensing and am up and down the mountain alot i have always wore knee high snake chaps but am interested in wearing these thigh high ones do they allow you to manuever well? if not what brand to recommendAnswers

They are easy to move in once you get used to them. However; if you are up and down a lot, you may want to explore other options. I mainly use them when cutting brush in thicker areas during the off season or when turkey hunting.1 of 1
