Whitetail Institute® Imperial Chicory Plus Whitetail Game Seed
I thought I would try a clover planting that had chicory in the blend. The chicory really comes up quick and produces a lot of above ground forage in a little bit of time. This helps the clover in the blend have time to grow while the deer are munching on the chicory. I've had mixed results with the deer eating the chicory though. In one food plot the deer wouldn't touch the chicory. I don't know if it was b/c they never tasted it, so therefore they didn't know what it tasted like or what? When this occurs, the chicory can be more of a weed b/c of its rapid growth. As a matter of fact it is a weed in some crop fields. However, I've planted it in other food plots and the deer keep it mowed down. The forage the chicory produces is very tender. They don't lie when they say that Imperial's chicory isn't like "other" brands and produces tender forage. This product can help you keep a lot of forage year round for your deer herd. The chicory still produces really well during the dry summers, and this can fill a gap in your nutrition program when the clover isn't at its growth peak. This product is well worth the money. Just make sure the pH is at least 6.5 so the clover can establish as well.

I planted this stuff last Spring, which is said to be a worse time to plant compared to fall. This came up quick and thick, and starved out many of the weeds that were left because of its thick and lush growth. The deer loved it too, I had about 12 trails going into this one acre plot where before I had 0.
