Performes well but ..... I bought this tippet with matching brand/style leader in 2x,3x,4x and found the line to be of good quality BUT not expected size. When tying tippet to leader I noticed the tippet felt stiffer and thicker than the leader. After going back and checking the leader diameter with a micrometer I came to the conclusion that the leaders where of the correct diameter at each end but the spools of tippet where grossly miss marked. The 3x leader was the expected .008 inches at the fly end but the 3x tippet measured a minimum of .0105 across the several feet I measured. This was also the case with the 2x with a leader diameter of .009 and a 2x spool of matched tippet coming in at .011. Before measuring the tippets I used them in conjunction with there matching sized leaders and each time I broke line on a snag or fish it broke on the leader side of the leader/tippet knot, never at the fly or mid tippet. Consider asking staff for a piece of leader to compare with the tag end of each spool before buying. Tippet performed well when matched to equal or greater sized diameter leader. February 26, 2013
Not impressed Just got back from fishing for Lake Erie tributary steelhead. I broke off about 10 different steelhead on the 4x-6lb tippet. This should have been more than adequate for these fish as I've used much lighter tippet in the past, but the water was stained so I stayed with the 4x. Sometimes I wouldn't even get past the initial head shake. All broke at the knots. I used uni's, polymar, and improved cinch and it didn't matter. Maybe it was a bad batch, or it was an old batch. Probably should have stopped somewhere to buy fresh, but thought maybe it was something I was doing wrong. Either way, i'll not get it again. The plus side is that it was very supple and easy to work with. March 21, 2011
Sinks! I bought this to tie my own leaders/tippets. I have fluorocarbon for my nymph rigs and needed mono for my dry flies. This stuff did not do the trick as it drags the fly down as soon as it lays on the water. Interesting quality in a mono. Having said all of that, it IS a great line. Supple as you could ask for, ties solid knots and holds big fish fast. I put it into my spinning kit to use as leaders when bait fishing with powerbait, etc. May 14, 2009
tippet White River Fly Shop tippet is very Impressive. IT holds knots 100%, and is incrediblely abrasion resistent. In dominican republic, the panfish I catch,(tilapia), have rough mouths. I use 3x tippet for them and have never had a break off. Great tippet!!! highly reccomended. July 22, 2009

A:
You could use the larger sizes (1X-3X) for bass, but I'm not convinced that the fluorocarbon tippet is necessary. Bass don't seem to be spooked by regular nylon tippet as opposed to a wary trout, plus the nylon tippet is cheaper anyway.

Yes.

I would go with a 6 or 7X.

It sinks so don't use it for surface presentations, but it should work great for streamers and jigs.
