I tie nymphs with these no. 10 hooks and find them excellent for fly fishing for bluegills and young bass.
They're sufficiently strong, reliable, and sharp-pointed for easy hooksets in my pond fishing.
I mash down the barbs to make it quick and easy to remove hooks from bass and bream without harming the fish.
Once when a hook stuck in my right ear lobe on a cast, I was reminded of the importance of mashing down the barbs.

This is a great hook at a great price. It performs well, is thick and solid, and holds fish.

The "X" standard varies among manufacturers, so I don't pay much attention to it. After some time you'll be able to just eye it, and determine if it will work for what you're doing.This hook is modeled after the Mustad 3906B nymph hook, and they call it a 2X.
