White River Fly Shop's Intruder Fly Reel is an outstanding value! This reel incorporates all the best features of reels costing much more. From the rapid retrieve large-arbor design and rugged disc drag, to the one-way bearing that makes it easy to switch from left- to right-hand cranking, this reel has plenty to offer. Other features include a quick-release spool and, of course, durable all-aluminum construction.

tight with six weight line Very pleased with this reel. Good drag system, very smooth retrieve. My only complaint is I could only get about 75 yards (and that's tight) of 20lb. backing on this for the line to fit in 6WF or would have given it 5 stars. For the price you can't go wrong, cheap as most spare spools. As for the backing capacity, not that big a deal for trout, but I also do alot of carp and stripped bass fishing, and if you hook a big one it would be nice to have a little more backing. I know I could have upsized but that kind of makes for an unblanced system. overall a great purchace. August 31, 2014
Amazing Reel This is my 2nd fly reel, and after coming to this from a really cheap plastic Shakespeare fly reel, it's like a difference from a tricycle to a Corvette. This reel is fantastic. Its all-metal construction feels like a high end reel. The finish makes it looks like one and the function is top notch. The drag is feels extremely precise with crisp clicks into place. Unspooling line and reeling it in is a very smooth process. I bought the 7/8 weight reel mated to a #8 9 foot Intruder rod for windy conditions which is common in my area and this setup really gets the light flies out there, even in a good wind. You really can't go wrong for the price as this reel feels like it should cost way more than what it does. If you buy this at a Bass Pro Shop, the White River guys will spool it for you with backing, line, and leader (might cost a tad more but not much along with the backing/line/leader cost) which is definitely worth it. The knots are perfect, the spooling is perfect, and you walk out with a professional setup. I really commend the quality of service I received from the White River shop at Bass Pro. This is an amazing reel, mounted to a good rod all done with excellent customer service. I'm very pleased....and most important, it catches trout like a dream. August 7, 2014
Excellent buy I received this reel today. For the price you cant go wrong. The function, fit and finish seems like it could be a reel that costs much more, what a bargain. I havent used it yet. I dont see a problem there. Seems to work as I like a reel to work. To change from left to right is easy. Remove spool, pop out a clip, flip the bearing over, replace clip. Took all of about a minute or so. Thanks Bass Pro Shops. February 28, 2014
really great value Bought this reel for a Speckled trout trip to the gulf, since backing capacity isn't really as much an issue with trout I loaded a 100 yards of 20# backing and still had room for a little more with 8wt line. The drag was very smooth and I was very surprised at how smooth the reel is overall. It handled a decent sized ladyfish with no problem. For somebody that's getting into fly fishing on a budget I think it would do a fine job. I fish with a sage rod and reel here in Arkansas for trout and small mouth bass and didn't have a need to spend big money on an 8wt setup since I may only use it once a year on vacation and it did great. After every outing where it came in contact with saltwater it got cleaned with freshwater and it looks as good today as it did when carried it out of the store. Even if I got to go more often I don't know that I would upgrade since this reel has done so good. March 31, 2013

There is a small spool release on the "axle" of the reel (opposite side of the crank). Just slide the lever and hold it as you pull the spool of the reel off. Then you take the reel off the rod and mount it 180° back on the rod, then put the spool back on the reel. That's it!

Hi, you will want to remove spool by actuating spool release lever. Turn over spool and remove bearing retainer clip (wire piece). Remove bearing, and flip over. Replace bearing retainer clip. Put spool back on reel. Thank you

Yes, there should be no clicking or resistance (at least from the reel itself) when retrieving.
