by TexRog Good backup, light all around kit.
I bought this rod for fly fishing in Missouri. I only used the fly reel on that trip and it worked great on Rainbows under 19". The reel lacks any noticeable drag which caused a problem when I hooked two larger fish and could not use the drag to wear them down...I lost both. I just got back from fishing in Arkansas and used the rod and reel as a spincast. I actually used a small Daiwa spincast instead of the one that it comes with but the 7'6" rod worked great for small Rainbows with no problems. I have a TFO fly outfit and Pflueger spincasts but I plan on always bringing this set along as a backup.

Bought this spin/fly combo for a week long family vacation in the mountains. Gear looked to be decent quality for a bargain price. Things went well until I went to set the drag on the spinning reel. It would set to either about 1 pound or 6 pounds (estimate) with nothing in between. Since it came loaded with 6 lb line, you either had no control over the fish or is was dangerously close to breaking the line. Attempts to set the drag in between resulted in the drag self loosening.
Too bad, all the other components seemed decently well made and functioned well enough. Fix the drag on the spinning reel and this combo would be a winner.

this is a good rod for beginners. according to another user the rod snaps when casted and the spinning reel breaks in a week. NOT TRUE, i have used it for almost a year now and nothing has broken. very good quality for the price. in the picture it looks like a pretty strong rod, but notice they tell you its a 5/6 weight rod. it is hardely a 4 weight. you could probably reel in a 2.5 lb fish at most. i still use it but have only caught small one pounders. if you are a beginner or dont have much expierience get this rod, great price and its like two rods without the space or struggle, but if your a moderate or expert fly fisherman i would recommend going with a REAL 5/6 weight rod, especially if your fishing for bass like me.
