Rated 4 out of 5 by Good rod and reel I bought this rod and reel for my wife who is getting into fly fishing. I have to say I was pretty impressed i've bought inexpensive fly rods in the past and this rig far exceeded my expectations. Ive only had it for awhile so i'm not sure how it will last but it casts well and the reel is decent. Overall it was a perfect buy for my wife who loves it. I would recommend this setup for the price. October 23, 2012

A:
For smaller Salmon Fishing use a 7 or 8 weight Rod or for bigger salmon (like king snook) use a 9 or 10 weight Rod. However, it is important to match your rod weight size with species and conditions in your area so it is strongly recommend that you check with your local fishing shops for suggest that work best in your area. Each rod is designed for a specific wt. to use a heavier weight would cause the casting of the rod to be slower. But, this may permit you to lay out more line.

A:
It really just depends on the rod. If the rod is not stiff enough overlining can cause it to flex to much at the tip when casting and can really mess up your casting stroke on the other hand if it is stiff enough it can speed up the action of the Rod. I have 2 or 3 5 wt rods that I overline up to a 6wt and they cast great. but the only way to really know is to try it out.

When you wrote pcs. did you mean pieces? If that was your question, I saw this combo in the store today and I think it is 1 piece or 2 pieces. I didn't realy look at it hard. Hope I helped. :)
