Rated 5 out of 5Â by JeffFlyFisher Excellent Rod for Price
Purchased both 5 wt 9ft & 8wt 9ft Dogwood canyon rods. Both rods are worth the price. I caught a huge 30 inch steelhead on the 8 wt and it worked fine. Both the rods are excellent for beginners and definately worth the price. The 5 wt had a moderate action which is a good all around rod for the beginner. Both the 5 wt & 8 wt had plenty of action to play fish without busting off. I highly recommend the rods i used.

Have to say it took a little while to get use to the 7' - 4 weight rod. Having learned to fly fish on a 8'6" - 7 weight rod it is a transition. Mostly used on small streams the new rod does the trick. It is great for small flys size 14 and smaller. For the price it is a great deal and unexpected quality. Can't go wrong with this one.

GREAT FLYROD. THIS IS THE THIRD ONE I HAVE PURCHASED WITH NO DISAPPOINTMENTS. WE DONT FISH THEM IN THE CLASSIC BACK AND FORTH METHOD BUT ROLL A SMALL CORK, WT AND HOOKED CRICKET ON THE RIVER AND CREEK FOR PANFISH. GREAT CONTROL AND DISTANCE.

Size is not all that important when it comes to fly fishing. It is all about timing and technique. With a little practice you could handle any rod from 7' to 15'. Depending on where you intend to do most of your fishing an 8' or 8'6" 5 to 7 weight rod should fit about any venue on freshwater (and some brackish water as well).A:Â
