I have owned this reel now for about 6 year. I have had other very expensive reels, but I still find myself coming back to this one. This reel has been through it all. I am in the military and this reel has been across the world and back and still performs the way it did the way I brought it home.

I purchased this fly reel based on reviews that I had read and expected a great value for the money. Unfortunately, the item broke in less than a year and the warranty was denied because I could not produce the original store receipt. In the future, I will think twice about buying any White River merchandise with a supposed warranty.

Great starter reel
The dogwood canyon fly reel was part of my first fly-fishing outfit and it preformed very well when you consider the amount of abuse it was taking. The reel was submerged completely in water on more then one occasion and was left outside during numerous rainstorms. It preformed very well landing a few good-sized smallmouths. the reel finally broke when a part that controls the drag snapped; it was a small metal piece that makes the "click click" noise when line is pulled out of reel. I didn't really expect this reel to last that long anyway, it served its purpose as my first reel and I am now going to be upgrading to the hobbs creek fly reel. If you are looking to buy a starter, or a backup reel, this is the reel to buy.

I bought the white river dc56 combo and it works great.
I had to take the reel apart because the line got stuck underneath, when I took the cap off the top with the two screws a small v shaped piece of metal was loose. It is longer on one side than the other, I assume this holds the spool on. I am not sure there is also a flat curved piece of metal that sits on a raised circle.
This should be listed in the Owner's Manual. If you need one please contact customer service via email: https://basspro.custhelp.com/app/as... or take the reel into one of the Retail Stores and the person at the Fly Fishing Department will help you fix the problem.
if you take the reel of of the body and it looks like somthing is brocken or out of place you muct take the reel in for repair. |I have had this happen to me before and in the end i had to buy a new reel because the part was my problem for breaking it.
