Conventional bass guy makes a lot of casts in a day. When he fights a fish, it's only for tens of seconds. So his outfit is lightweight and compact. The rod averages 7' and the reel fits in his palm, even loaded with more line than he needs. Ditto for Pike Guy and Snook Guy. Why is Fly Guy still hunting bass with a 9' rod and 10 ounce reel? Give your shoulder a rest, and get a grip on the future of flybassin' with one of these expertly tuned outfits. Complete HEAT Bass Outfits

My wife bought this setup for me for our anniversary. I tied a few popsicle fly streamers on #4 hooks and went wade fishing out in the mud flats of a local lake. Caught several bass in the 2-3lb range, and hooked and nearly landed one that was probably 8lbs or better. The rod is a true workhorse. It loads well and 50 to 60ft casts are no problem. And for a shorter rod, I am able to roll cast moderately long distances. The reel is a pretty nice compliment to the rod, the most helpful thing being its large arbor. This makes line retrieval much quicker on those bigger fish.
I'd recommend this setup to any level of fly fisherman. Get that haul and double-haul techniques down, and you can fish all day with this thing!
