A GREAT Purchase I worked right out of the box. I shot 5 boxes at clays and hit 90%. That is VERY good for me. It is light and throws and tracks with ease. LOVE IT!!!! September 2, 2013
Perfect choice I use it mostly for casual skeet shooting. About 1000 rounds so far. The gun has performed flawlessly since new (*knock on wood*). I've seen friends have trouble with their guns, even guns costing much more - Beretta, Franchi, Mossberg 935, Rem 870. Not huge problems, but compared to zero problems for the Weatherby, what can I say? Recoil seems normal, but I would not say light. I fired a magnum load from my friend's 870 that seems to have less recoil than the same round from the Weatherby - maybe weight; maybe the longer barrel on the Weatherby (28" v. 20"). The "heavy" piston did not cycle Rem. 2 3/4 00 buck Managed Recoil, so I haven't even tried it on the light skeet rounds (Rem. Gun Club, mostly). The only minor downside is that it didn't have a fiber optic sight, which I added for about $10. January 22, 2015
Quality Semi-Auto Shotgun I went into the BPS this year and told the guy I wanted a decent semi-auto. I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg, but I didn't want to buy trash either. He pointed me straight to this gun immediately. Boy was he right. This is a quality semi-auto (especially for the price). This gun comes with two different pistons; heavy and light, which is really cool. I usually keep the heavy on there, but I've had it struggle to eject ONE type of dove shell EVER. It took me about 45 seconds to change the piston, and it started spitting them out no problem. Not only would I recommend this gun to a friend, I have. He hunts with it too and loves it. I told the BPS guy when I bought it that I would probably upgrade in a few years. I would now like to retract that statement. I'm not sure why I would ever need to get a different gun. Awesome Shotgun I was in the market a few years ago for a new semi. I didn't want to buy another 1187, I'll never own another mossberg semi, and have never really been impressed with the super black eagles. I did a lot of research about this gun beore I bought it. I've had it for 2 years and couldn't be happier with it. It's light, handles great and has low recoil for being one of the lightest shotguns on the market. I have well over 1,000 rounds through it without a single problem. The recycle time is incredible and it will chewup and spit out any type of shot you put in it. I've used it for waterfowl, clays, squirrel and turkey. March 1, 2012

A:
It's made in Turkey, to Weatherby specifications. Turkish factories are turning out a lot of high-quality firearms these days. I believe Stoeger and CZ also sell shotguns made there, for just 2 examples.

3" shells into magazine?

Details:
I just bought a waterfowl edition. I'm having issues putting 3" shells into the magazine. Do you have issues with this? 2 3/4" shells go in fine. 3" shells seem to bind up on the carrier when pushing #2 & #3 shell in. In order to get them in I have to unlock the carrier and pull the bolt back about 1/2 way to all the carrier to depress enough to push the 3" shell in.

Hi, thank you for your inquiry. I have checked with the manufacturer and they stated it does require more force to insert the 3" shells into the magazine tube. The easiest explanation is the length of the 3" shells is at a greater angle than the 2 3/4" shells and therefore causes the resistance. There is no evidence showing adverse affects of using the 3" shells. www.weatherby.com

3 shell capacity

Details:
I had asked the question and it was answered that it was 1 shell in the chamber and 3 in reserve for 4 shells total...in PA it needs to be 1 shell in the chamber and 2 in reserve for a total of 3 not 4. Does this come with a plug so that you have 1 in the chamber and 2 in reserve?

A:
My SA-08 came with a plug limiting it to 2 in the magazine. The instructions for removing it are very poor. There's a trick to it that makes it simple, but they don't explain it. At the end of the mag tube is a thin metal disk. You have to first push the magazine spring, but not the disk. That relieves tension on the disk, allowing it to be easily twisted in place and removed.

1 in the chamber, 2 in the magazine

In CA it came with a waterfowl plug that restricts it to 1 in the chamber and 2 in reserve. I've seen UN-boxing videos on YouTube and it seems that in other states it does come with the plug as well.

I had the Stoeger 3500 and it was a great shotgun. Not one problem with it. Never owned 3000 model. I seem to be the only one with problem with the Weatherby SA 08. Still not back from manufacturer. Sent in Dec. 31, 2013

While both of these have a round capasity of 6+1 and both are semi-auto, they do have some differences. The Stoeger weighs 1 lb more than the Weatherby. The Stoeger is pre-drilled and tapped for a scope and the weatherby is not. The Stoeger has a vented recoil pad where the Weatherby does not. The Stoeger has an enlarged trigger guard opening for easier use while wearing gloves. These are both very reliable guns. Choosing the best depends on the importance of the different options.

It did in CA. I've seen UN-boxing videos of this gun on YouTube and they have the plug as well. It's a green waterfowl plug.

Yes. The current one can be removed (unscrewed) and a new one screwed in. I installed a $10 fiber optic front sight and it was hard to manipulate the very small screw, but I managed it.

A:
I don't understand quite why you might want to, but you can buy some from the store.

I don't know. I use a 26" on my Winchester 101's (12 and 20) because they are quite heavy. I was very impressed on how well the 28" moved and it was super accurate!!
