VENTAFISH™ Dehooker Combo
"I purchased this dehooker after having owned several different brands over the years. A good friend of mine got one as part of a tournament gift bag and suggested I buy one. I bought the combo pack with the venting tool and this dehooker on my way to Savannah for some offshore fishing. Most of the dehookers I have used in the past got the job done one way or the other, but this was an absolute pleasure to use. The directions are easy to read and the tool is obviously built by someone with some common sense and fishing experience (unlike some others I have used before). I released close to 50 sea bass and numerous red snapper and grouper with this tool without ever having to bring them into the boat. One slide of the tool down the line and a quick shake and they were off to fight another day. It is sturdy and the grip has a nice, soft rubber grip to it; it has a large enough diameter to feel comfortable in my hand (unlike some that dig into your hand). I'll also mention that I used it on a wide variety of hooks including Kahle, Circle, Octopus, and J style and it worked every time without fail. I'll never own anything other than this dehooker, I like it that much.
I also got the venting tool as part of this combo pack. Now although the regulations here in GA do not require them yet (although I’m sure they will at some point), for the price of the combo pack I couldn’t pass it up. I have always seen fish I have caught deep float on top of the water when I release them (especially black seas bass). I figured this tool would help – at the very least I hadn’t really spent that much money on it if it didn’t. After 5 minutes reading the instructions, I felt comfortable enough to give it a shot on the water. Let me say, the directions are awesome. It really helped eliminate my fears that I would hurt the fish by doing this. I used it on the water and every fish I vented swam straight back down (no floating)! The best part about this tool, IMO, is that the needle is not exposed to me even during use so I don’t have to worry about sticking myself with it. The other good part is that if I drop the tool (which I did several times due to flopping fish), the needle retracts automatically. Very cool tool here – I’m going to keep using it.
Best price I've seen on either of these tools and by far the best I've used and I've been fishing saltwater and freshwater for 20 years."
