Rated 5 out of 5 by As Promised Uriah's Truck Bed Extender is as promised: strong, simple, and flexible in length and width. I added a water noodle wrapped in olefin carpet to the center bar to add cushion between the steel extender and my aluminum canoe. This allows my aluminum canoe to smoothly slide into the truck bed without metal-on-metal grinding. The extra cushion also absorbs bounce. Bear in mind that the shaft that inserts into the hitch mount has room for movement, which is exaggerated at the tip of the extender when traversing over irregularities in the road. May 28, 2013

Rated 4 out of 5 by Great, but could be better I bought this product to use on my truck for a move down to Florida. When I first put it on it was a bit loose, but then I tied it down to the safety chain loops on the hitch and had no problems. Great product. August 29, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 High Quality Nice and solid. Customizable and comes apart easily. Will store under my Silverado back seat. June 26, 2011

A:
The tubing slides into the receiver tube then a pin secures it. I don't think trying to secure it to a hole for a hitch ball would hold the weight because of how far it extends from the truck.

I've seen a similar one that supports weights up to 350lbs. Is this comparable?

Thank you for your question! Most of the weight will be on the truck bed, so the actual weight limit may vary. However, 500 lbs is the best approximation.

It’s difficult to say exactly how much weight the carrier will hold because of the fact that it’s a fulcrum from the front of the truck to the back. It will hold generally between 500 and 750 lbs. of distributed weight capacity. That is, the cargo needs to be distributed equally and secured between the cab-rack and the carrier so all of the weight is not resting on the carrier. from Uriah

This would be great but how do you secure the load on the roof when used in the upright position? Is there a compatible bar to secure the load on the roof for those of us with no roof rack? I have seen one with similar products but nothing is suggested here. Maybe it should be...

You could use a type of rack made from manufactures like Yakima or Thule. There are different attachments you can buy to carry kayaks, snowboards, skis, storage bins, etc, that attach to their bars. I'm sure you could find something that would work for whatever you plan to haul.
