This product works great to prime a metal surface. I would recommend to use a quality sprayer to apply if you are spraying(it may require thinning if it isn't a powerful sprayer). I ended up having to switch to a Graco sprayer so I didn't have to thin the primer.
NOTE: This will cause old paint to peel if it is chipped and not applied to a smooth coat of old paint or bare surface.

I have a painted aluminum hull and I will attempt to remove most of the paint with a rotating wire brush. My question is 2 fold, first will this work with aluminum, secondly how much paint needs to go, can the etching over come most of the residual paint?Answers

You have to use this on aluminum, normal primer won't hold, and yes it works great, I've done two boats with it. My 10'x48" Jon boat took about a can and a half, you gotta make sure you get good coverage.Take a sanding block to the hull, like 100 grit, get as much of the paint off as possible, and then power wash it and wipe it down with a solvent to get any grease off your boat.1 of 1
