The GX2 rod retains all the strength and reliability that Ugly Stik® is legendary for, while adding new features that improve performance and durability even more! Ugly Tech™ construction combines fiberglass and graphite in exactly the right proportion to render a blank that is sensitive, lighter, and virtually unbreakable. The Ugly Tuff™ guides are crazy slick and practically bulletproof, so that line feeds through and runs back more freely. And, as always, the rod is finished off with Ugly Stik's signature clear fiberglass tip for added power and sensitivity.

  • Ugly Tech Construction
  • Graphite and fiberglass blank
  • Ugly Tuff Guides
  • One piece stainless steel inserts
  • Ugly Stik's classic Clear Tip®

Ugly Stik Gx2 This rod has helped me land many fish recently and it casts well. The only issue is that the tip is where all of the flexibility comes from so fishing topwater lures like the spook is hard. The line gets wrapped in the tip when walking the dog. I had the exact same rod in the older version and I did not experience this problem. May 19, 2014
ugly stik gx2 I kayak fish the semi-protected bays in Southwest Lousiana for specks and redfish. A long rod is not helpful when a large speck or redfish runs under the yak. You are often left with a broken rod tip on graphite rods. As a result many of us really liked the original Ugly Stik pistol grip rods, but they were very "tip heavy" and poorly balanced. And the rod eye inserts would pop out with frequency. Enter the new Ugly Stik GX2 rods which I recieved two weeks ago. I absolutely love them. The fiberglass tip can bend forever without breaking and the balance has been improved dramatically. The rod eyes have no inserts to break or fall out. Very sturdy like the original Ugly Stiks but without all the weight and poor balance. I strongly recommend them to all fishermen and ladies. And they remain very inexpensive indeed just like the originals they replaced. October 21, 2013
great quality & price purchased a spinning rod the year they hit the market, as a young boy.( I may have been a teenager.) I am over 50 now and just recently lost that rod. You dont know what you got till its gone! Big loss, only one tip repair in over 35 years of service. Purchasing another to replace, just love the feel. January 4, 2014
ugly stik gx2 OFFSHORE!!!! I bought this rod the day it came out [not knowing it was coming out] after the ceramic insert on the old ugly stik broke;/. It looked a bit skeptical at first because it was thiner than the older ones but the new handle look sold me. I took it to the beach for some flounder jigging in mind, it seemed to do very well then I took it offshore in my kayak NOTE this is the 6ft 2 piece model rod]} caught some bluefish and sea mullet and a small shark and then I "accidently" hooked onto a 4ft sand shark . you would have thought the rod would have snapped in 2 because the the tip was about 2 feet from the handle., but just like ugly stiks do they don't break and that was a awesome catch!!!! go ugly stik gx2!!! if it can handle a 4ft 20lb sand shark im sure it can handle whatever you hook onto. so go buy this rod, you wont be disappointed!! Yes: I've used Ugly Stiks for inshore salt water as well as near offshore for many years. As with any gear, rinse them with fresh water when you get home; they will last a long time.

A:
Yes, you would be able to use for inshore fishing if you take good care of it. To help keep the rod from corrode from the saltwater make sure you wash and rinse your items with fresh water as soon as you can.

Light inshore rods are commonly 6 1/2 - 7 feet long in a medium light or medium power with a fast action tip rated for line sizes of 6-12 lb test.

Heavy inshore rods are generally 7 - 7 1/2 feet in length and medium to medium heavy power, yet still possess a rather fast tip rated for line sizes of 12-20lb test.

Thank you!

Yes there are larger sizes that will work plus they are very resistant to salt from what I can tell
