The GX2 rod retains all the strength and reliability that Ugly Stik is legendary for, while adding new features that improve performance and durability even more! Ugly Tech construction combines fiberglass and graphite in exactly the right proportion to render a blank that is sensitive, lighter, and virtually unbreakable. The Ugly Tuff guides are crazy slick and practically bulletproof, so that line feeds through and runs back more freely. And, as always, the rod is finished off with Ugly Stik's signature clear fiberglass tip for added power and sensitivity.

I recently purchased a couple of the GX2 ugly stiks to use as trolling rods for my kayak. I am convinced that the ugly stik line are the best you can buy in that price range. I believe the GX2 to be an improvement both performance and cosmetics. I paired the rods with a
Penn Fierce reel. Good luck finding a better set up for a hundred bucks!

light weight and the one piece eyelets are perfect for anyone using braided line. Gel tip is classic ugly stik sensitivity but keeps enough firmness in the rod to set the hook. overall excellent rods and the new red and black colors look awesome!

I kayak fish the semi-protected bays in Southwest Lousiana for specks and redfish. A long rod is not helpful when a large speck or redfish runs under the yak. You are often left with a broken rod tip on graphite rods. As a result many of us really liked the original Ugly Stik pistol grip rods, but they were very "tip heavy" and poorly balanced. And the rod eye inserts would pop out with frequency. Enter the new Ugly Stik GX2 rods which I recieved two weeks ago. I absolutely love them. The fiberglass tip can bend forever without breaking and the balance has been improved dramatically. The rod eyes have no inserts to break or fall out. Very sturdy like the original Ugly Stiks but without all the weight and poor balance. I strongly recommend them to all fishermen and ladies. And they remain very inexpensive indeed just like the originals they replaced.

I was a huge fan of the old version of the Ugly Sticks and 10 of my 12 rods are all Ugly Sticks (older versions) from my 5' foot for crappie, all the way up to a 9 and 10 footer. In need of another spinning rod, I picked up the 6 foot heavy action GX2 spinning rod as an alternative for my striped bass baitcasting setup, as I like to have a spinning setup if the wind picks up. I spooled up some 20 pound Power Pro braid to a Shimano Sedona 4000 and threw on a 1oz weight to test out the braided line, since I was toying with switching to braid from mono. Will never use mono ever again! Holy cow. The setup casted so far during my test that the weight ended up going over a power pole line. I wouldn't have guessed it would even reach the bottom of the pole, let alone go sailing over the line! My fault for testing in my yard at 4AM. I really dig this rod a lot and will be picking up a 6 foot med or med/heavy for an alternative setup to my largemouth baitcaster. The rod seems to be much lighter than the old version and the smaller eye guides don't have any negative impact on casting. One thing I liked about the old version was the glossy finish but this flat finish has grown on me and makes a blingy reel look even nicer. There logo in the foam handle is a cool touch too. Sometime change is good, very good.
