Ugly Stik GX2 Spinning Combo - The new Ugly Stik® GX2™ spinning combos deliver in all aspects of performance and offer the best value and toughest spinning combos on the market.

The spinning reel is the first Shakespeare® reel designed specifically for Ugly Stik. The reel is made from glass filled nylon featuring a double anodized aluminum spool with oversized bail wire for added durability, three or four total bearings for smoother gear feel, two pinion bearings that reduce overall wear on the reels internal parts, and soft touch handle knobs for added comfort.

The GX2 rod retains all the strength and reliability that Ugly Stik is legendary for, while adding a few new features that make it better than before. Ugly Tech construction combines fiberglass and graphite in exactly the right proportion to render a blank that is sensitive, lighter, and virtually unbreakable. The Ugly Tuff guides are crazy slick and practically bulletproof, so that line feeds through and runs back more freely. And, as always, the rod is finished off with Ugly Stik's signature clear fiberglass tip.

Rated 3 out of 5 by get what you pay for I wanted a couple of inexpensive rods and reels to leave at my daughters' house so that I don't have to take them on the plane. I wanted a heavy fresh water setup so that I could also use it in fresh and salt water. For that purpose it is fine. If I only wanted to use it in fresh water, I wouldn't have bought it because it is quite heavy and will wear you out if you plan on casting for a long time. I thought it was a great price for a simple, all around setup. March 16, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by ugly stik The GX2 Ugly Stik is a great rod. And the price is rite. The reel is ok, but nothing special. I put a Penn 6500 ssv on it with suffix braid and love it. It is a lure casting monster. March 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Its a great Ugly Stik Ugly Stik is not usually known for there reels, but the reel is not that bad at all, got the 7mh rod with the big reel and it works really well, cant really handle 17lb test line that well though. Casts ok with that heavy line, going to change to a lighter line. but over all a great rod and reel combo for the price, also just like other ugly stiks the rod is unbelievably strong February 8, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Too stiff The rod was too stiff and I had a difficult time casting for any distance. December 12, 2013

Very much so, the Ugly Stik Gx2 is just like the original Ugly Stik it's very strong and durable with a tip that lets you see and feel every little bump or strike

A:
Yes it would. I have both a spinning and casting GX2 rods and they both work well for any type of fresh water fishing. They are tough and I especially like the one piece guides and carbon fiber body, except for the tip. You can't go wrong woth an Ugly Stick.
