This was the first bait cast reel I have ever owned. With that said I was expecting some learning curve. After a few casts and following the settings it recommends in the user's manual I am on my way to becoming a skilled bait cast user. The real seems to be functioning fine. I would caution you that if you cast with you left hand it may be worth it to get a left handed reel so that you don't have to swap hands after casting. I prefer this on my spinning reels that are easy to swap over, but the bait cast reels are not "swappable"!

The book is real good for information. It's very detailed I like it and would recommend it to anyone that is a do it yourselfer. He goes in to everything from house breaking to finalizing your dog after the first year of hunting.

Of all the training books I have looked at this book is easy to read & understand. Plenty of pictures which show what author is meaning.
