Rated 5 out of 5 Excellent beginners book
With flyfishing terminology bordering on a foreign language to a 50-year spin / bait cast fisherman, I found this book very educational without being ridiculously dumbed down. (i.e., Idiots guide to Fly Fishing) Although the illustrations are very clear, a valuable addition would be the inclusion of a DVD to view the entire casting process flow, start to finish. But, on the other hand, there are many casting DVDs on store shelves already. The book alone is well worth the price.

This is absolutely the greatest fishing book I have ever read, and my library has gotten pretty big lately. It explains in detail every single step in beginning fly fishing, with very helpful illustrations. This book was great for me because I had already gone fly fishing a couple times, but I couldn't really be considered a fly fisherman, just some guy who couldn't figure out why the line kept dropping at his feet. This book is a great read in the offseason, too because it not only explains techniques, but how to select gear, the best fly and presentation for a given situation, and tips for literally every single species that can be caught on a fly outfit, from trout to tuna. The best part of the book is the sections on flies and fly selection. I was overwhelmed when I used to scroll through the thousands of fly patterns available on most web sites. This guide helped me navigate any fly catalog with ease, and it taught me how to properly fish nearly any fly on the market. If you are a beginner looking to start off on the right foot, or a veteran who wants to know a quick tip, trick or shortcut, this book is perfect for you.
