Rod feels great I am getting back into fly fishing after a long sabbatical. I have a 5wbvk and an 8wbvk I have landed decent sized fish on both rods and I am amazed and how much I can feel the fish fighting. The cast is slowly coming back to me but I know this rod is forgiving so when I open my wrist sometimes I can still recover the cast.

Love my TFO flyrods
This is my second TFO flyrod and I love it. The 8 wt. BVK does everything that was advertised. It easily handled Pike up to 30" and Smallmouth up to 18" in the weeds. Can't wait to try it on Redfish in the near future.

Best Fly Rod Ever!!
WOW!! I am very impressed with the BVK! I purchased the 10' 5 weight, It casts like a dream, even in the wind, effortlessly tossing large leaders(18-20 ft) with precision and finesse!! My first two casts with this rod netted me with two beautiful 8 pound rainbows!! definatly worth the buy!! Thank you TFO and Lefty Krey!!!

New BVK's do NOT have the recoil stripping guides
This is not a huge deal to me, but I was a little surprised when I got my new TFO BVK rod home and opened the package to find that it DID NOT have the recoil stripping guides. The demo in the store had them... but from what I'm told the demo was last year's model (when they still had the recoil guides).
According to the TFO website the BVK rods have the new TFO Tactical Series Stripping Guides...
"* TFO's Tactical Series Guides are high performance guides designed to withstand the most rigorous fishing conditions while providing the ultimate in weight savings. The guides feature super hard-chrome anodized, stainless steel inserts pressed into a machined, hard-annodized, satinless steel frame for extreme durability in both fresh and saltwater." The BPS website still shows the recoil guides in the list of features.
I just got the rod today so it's a little early to do a full review. But it seems like a lot rod for the money. Hardware and finish is beautiful. This is my second TFO rod and the other is outstanding. My only gripe is that TFO rods don't come with rod-tubes... just with the rod sock. So you have to spend $35.00 more to get a rod tube... One that would be included in the cost of most other rods at the price point of the BVK.

I just bought a BVK without the recoil guides as that is all they carried in the store. The newer rods have the recoil guides, it appears and for whatever reason the stores don't carry them. The regular guides work fine though. Every other rod in the store also had regular guides.
No. I don't think any of the TFO rods come with cases. It comes with a sleeve, and I usually buy a Bass pro White River hard case with a reel pocket. They are pretty inexpensive and more durable than most factory rod cases.
Yes, but remember, these rods are quite fast action. I have used a 5 weight 10' and it worked well. There are other rods that would do this better, but you can' t beat the quality you get for the price with the BVK. The 4 weight will give you a little more flex so you can bend with the fish a little better.
