Rock solid construction, engineering and overall bomb-proofness in a reasonably priced package. I use this reel for Salmonid pursuits;casting 1/2-3/4 oz. spoons from all access points into & out of L. Michigan:I've yet to be spooled &/or "fouled" via this machine's error. Running 10Lb. Fireline w/a fluorocarbon leader of equal or slightly lesser weight rating, linked strictly by a back-to-back uni-knot, hooking, fighting and landing quarry in the 15-25 Lb. range-some days CPR'd well over 15 fish-I have absolutely ZERO complaints.

This reel is comparable to the Pfleuger Supremme and Shimano medium weight spinning reel in every instance.
Its drag is suffecient to stop a 6 # bass and a 15# Red .

I bought the reel for my wife. We had been perch and bass fishing but she decided to try for Northern Pike. I bought her this reel to replace the one from a chain store she had been using. First trip out she landed two three-foot'ers. The reel performed flawlessly, very nice drag & fast retrieve. What a rush. Next weekend we're going for four-foot'ers.

Wow this reel is awesome I bought the 2000 model to fish mainly for Smallmouth and it has performed beyond my expectations. This is my first Diawa reel I have owned and it was purchased mainly because I kayak fish and my reels get wet. I found other manufacturers don't offer a waterproof reel at this price point and lets just say I'm glad they don't because this reel has quickly became my favorite. I have used it twice a week since purchasing it over a month ago and it has been underwater and is usually wet during most of my fishing. The waterproof drag and sealed body have kept the reel performing smooth well longer than other reels I have owned. I haven't had to worry about sand or water effecting the performance at all. I have landed a lot of Smallmouths with this reel including a 19.5" as well as numerous 14"-17" Smallies and Largemouths. The drag has performed flawlessly and you can tell the quality is great. I look forward to using this reel for many years I'm a proud member of Team Daiwa now
