1st problem: Magazine to barrel clamp does not fit. Not even close. Contacted TacStar - they want me to send the clamp back to them for evaluation.
2nd problem: Remington follower jams in junction between magazine and TacStar extension. I can easily load 9 shells, but only first 4 will feed. I had to machine my own follower. Works perfectly with my follower. If you are not a machinist, you might have to buy an aftermarket follower.
All in all, I prefer the steel magazine extension tube compared to the aluminum used by others.

Full disclosure - I haven't actually fired my shotgun with this mag extension yet, but after installation the gun cycles and loads shells fine. Installation was a little tricky, but not because of the TacStar magizine extension. What I learned is some model Remington 870 shotguns have two little dimples at the top end of the magazine. This keeps the magazine spring retainer in the tube when you take the magazine cap off (to remove the barrel). When I originally I put the TacStar extension on, I was a little ticked that I couldn't get any additional shells in. A brief search on the Internet, and I found the problem. A quick drimel job to carefully grind down the two dimples, and this magazine extension seems to work fine.
Product is metal, black, parkerized, and it matches the gun fine. Can't wait to take it to the range! Holds six 3" shells, and I expect the eight shell capacity applies to 2 1/2" shells. There may be some trick with the spring that could get me an extra 3" shell.

Yes, you can do this without the need of a gunsmith if you have a dremel and are reasonably capable. I have an 870 Express and just put this mag extension on (literally, about 30 minutes ago). If your 870 magazine has dimples at the end to keep the spring and spring retainer in, then you'll have to grind these off with a dremel. It took me about 5 minutes. Just go slow, and don't cut into the walls of the magazine tube.Answers

The one I ordered is parkerized. According to the package, part number 1081169 (7-shot extension) and part number 1081186 (8-shot extension) are both parkerized.A:Â
