This stand had very good reviews, both on BassPro and other hunting forum websites.
Decided to buy it on the Thanksgiving sale. Bought on Wed night. Practiced with it on Thursday. Put it up on Friday morning at 0530. At 0615, game over, deer down.
There is an excellent series on videos on youtube on how to use the stand (pursuithunting). Watch the enclosed DVD and these videos and you will be climbing quickly AND safely.
I have had no problem with paint chipping, but did hit the metal in various areas with black, tan and brown spray paint to add some camo.
I also bought the optional side bags. HIGHLY recommend these. I put the safety straps in there and my drop line, plus all the other nice to have at hand type of things.

This is my first tree stand, though I have hunted all my life. Now, being retired, I'm finding time to hunt deer, (the job requirements just never easily allowed it before). After reading instructions, watching the video, and assembling the stand, I tried it out (also my first time using a stand). Setting the stand up on the tree is easy, climbing with it is easy, and it is very comfortable to hunt from once setup is completed. I have not tried any other stands, though I have looked at several, and I feel this stand is as good or better that the ones I have seen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MEGABUCKSTALKER AWESOME!
super light easy to use. The only issue is the seat slides back and forth easy when you turn to look around the tree and makes alot of noise. If you keep that in mind its not a problem. Other than that it is an awesome comfortable stand!

Rated 5 out of 5 by BrettM Great Investment for Bowhunters!
I purchased the Viper for my 2012 Whitetail season and it has worked out great! I was skeptical about going to a climber for safety reasons but after reviewing the instructional DVD that comes with the Viper, and practising safe climbing techniques before I hit the hunting grounds, it has turned out to be my second best bow hunting investment next to my bow! Minimal time to set up and you can move to where the deer are and change positions quickly to adapt to changing wind conditions. As other reviews have mentioned, the carrying straps are uncomfortable but that would be the only negative...get one!
