Need to wake up sleepy hawgs hiding out in cover? The Strike King® Rage Tail® Smokin' Rooster is about as ''loud'' as flippin' plastics get! Meaty and substantial, it moves water—and the oversized legs and scalloped Rage Tail create plenty of fish-calling thump. Great for Texas Rigs, Carolina Rigs, flipping or pitching.

  • Aggressive creature bait with oversized swimming arms

Awsome Don't get me wrong. Just like any plastics out there, this tear easy too. Just in a better way, is the fish that tear them up. I caught about 5 big bass before I had to change to a new one, then i caught 6 more. It's my go to plastic bait next to Rage Hawg. June 21, 2010
Works well This thing is like a dinner bell to all fish. well, maybe not blue-gill. It's supposed to be for bass but it works for other fish too. Check out my white crappie! June 9, 2010
works Works when other stuff don't , great smallmouth bait in idaho May 1, 2012
very versatile! I really like this strike king bait, mainly because it's extremely versatile. I fish this bait texas rigged but it's also great for throwing far and then reeling slowly, just like a swimbait. It's also good for flippin/pitchin! The bait has a lot of action and it's meaty, so it will attract the big ones. I really like the black/blue flake for muddy or stained water. The price is very good, especially for the many different ways you can use this bait. try it, you won't be disappointed. January 25, 2010

there are by far cheaper baits out there and like you I watch what I spend on baits and tackle and I can tell you this - the first time I used this I caught a bass - definately worth it - also Texas Rigged with or without a weight will just do just fine

Seeing how you are a budget spender I can understand the you would want to get the best you can for your money. First you need to answers the questions in regards to where are you going to fish. How clear is the water is it clear, muddy, or some where in the middle?
If the water is clear you need to use more natural looking baits such as watermelon seed, green pumpkin, black, laminate, watermelon pearl, red shad green flake, red shad, bumblebee swirl, dark grasshopper, dark watermelon, and ultimate craw. If the water is some where in the middle of clear and muddy then these colors will work grate. Black neon, watermelon red, Ozark smoke, smoke red pepper, Cajun neon, Cooter brown. I have to say that green pumpkin neon works grate in the partly muddy water. If the water is really muddy colors like bubblegum lemon swirl, crawdad, and Virgo blue will work

I have used the smoking rooster for any number of things, including a trailer for my swim jigs. My preference is to use it keel weighted, and swim it along, but it worked very well on swim jigs as well.

I use a wid gap xps either 3/0 or 4/0. I sometimes use a weight and sometimes I dont. If you dont want a quick fall fish it without a weight.

5/0 owner wide gap

A:
I use size 5 wide gap hook for the regualar bush hog with a 1/2 oz tungstun weight. It penetrates the cover very well. If the cover is really thick I peg the weight and flip it hog high so it drops stright down through the cover.
