First 2 casts and had 2 strikes using the rage tail shad. My wife also got a nice bass the same day using the same lure. Now each of us always have a rage tail shad rigged on 2 of our 8 rods everytime we are fishing

Well first off, you have to take the tail and peel it away from the body cause it is connected by a tag. People apparently can't figure that out when there bait starts to spin. The bait has a great sound to it. I've had more hits with this than any buzz bait and the hook set is awesome. You can't go wrong with this bait.

They should take these off the market. I bought two packs of these duds a few years ago. And for two years they have been thrown in a box that stays home when I go fishing. They don't swim properly, they spin,spin and spin. Your line will tangle shortly after casting a few times. I don't know how these people who rate these baits on a high scale, but I have rigged these things several ways and can't get them to stop spinning while reeling them in. Folks in my bass club say the same thing. Maybe I'll try dragging them on the bottom if I have time some day. But I doubt it.

Not at all. When the fish blows up on this bait, and they will, just pause your retrieve for a moment and then lean in to a nice solid hook set. If you are using a sharp hook, of the right size (Moaner 4/0 Keel weighted Stroker hook), a rod with the correct action (medium heavy) and some braided line then you will be fine and dandy.Lunchbox

Am rigging it using a small snap swivel. The swivel keeps the line from twisting on the retreive. It seems the spin on the retreive is what makes the splash which makes the bass attack the lureA:Â
you can Put on a 4 or 5ought hook and they should work fine, good luck

rig them on a keel weighted hooks such as the MOANER Stroker hook with the 1/8 oz keel weight. I use the 4/0 size. This will prevent the bait from rolling as you reel them in. Using a bait casting reel as opposed to a spinning reel is helpful as well.Lunchbox

Idiot me! I rigged one upright with tail up on a 3/8 oz. spinner bait and caught a 38" muskie. What might I have caught if I had rigged it correctly.

The proper way to rig a Strike King Rage Shad is tail up with a wide gap worm hook. I use size 4/0. Rig it Texas style and weightless with one flat wide side down and the other up. Think of it as reeling a pancake across the surface. They are made to be a surface lure and will not twist if rigged right. Once you see and hear the action you may never use a buzzbait again!

I was unable to stop the bait from rolling while fishing it at a speed to make the tail work weightless. I texas rigged it with a weighted swimbait hook and that helps quite a bit.
