A Bass Pro Exclusive!
2011 Bassmaster Classic's winning lure!
  • Overbuilt chunk
  • Scrumptious bass treat
  • Rumbles down to a 3'-6' plane
  • Square lip prevents most snags
  • Perfect color schemes
This overbuilt chunk of a scrumptious bass treat rumbles down to a 3'-6' plane in both sizes, the ideal depth for a do-it-all cranker. The key with this crank is to bump it off cover—the square lip prevents most snags, and it's the easiest way to indicate to Mr. Greensides that this is his most attractive option. Add the perfect color schemes, and you're in the money!

''With Strike King crankbaits tied on, catching has been a whole lot easier!''

does it really have rattles

Details:
I have a KVD 1.5, and it is silent, no rattles. The Strike King catalog lists the KVD 1.5 as .."no internal rattles for a silent approach". Your page shows the KVD 1.5 and 1.0 with rattles, so need to make sure that is accurate.

Black back Chartrues, Its the color that KVD used to win the 2011 Bassmaster classic in murky water. From experience that is the color i get the most strikes with in murky water as well.

Chartreuse/Black Back should do pretty well for you. White should also do well if the sun is shining. Use dark colors on cloudy days and early and late in the day.

The primkary difference is the size of the bait, with the 2.5 being almost twice as big.

A:
The 1.5 is smaller then the 2.5. Let the fish tell you what they want, sometimes they want a smaller profile bait sometimes they want a larger one. Also always try to match the hatch. If you see that the forage fish seem to be smaller in your area go with the 1.5 and vice versa with the 2.5. Its always good to have a few in each size readily available.

Basically size and that's it. You have to study the forage in your fishing area to figure out which size you want. I fish in the Susquehanna River and the forage here is usually small so I go with the 1.5. Plus I am a smallmouth fisherman so smallmouth will like the smaller bait.

The 1.5 measures about 2 1/4" and the 2.5 is 2 3/4". Probably weigh 1/4oz (1.5) and 3/8oz on the 2.5

They do seem to run through grass well and even though you occassionally will have to rip it off, which is not a bad technique for generating a strike anyway!

I'm not afraid to use mine in a grassy area. I try to make sure that they tick the top of the grass and weed beds. I've used them in ponds in my area and have been sucessful in catching bass with them.

I does run good through thin, sparse grass. If it is thicker like hydrilla, you may need to snap the bait in order to clear the grass.

They're not weedless by no means, but if you just finesse them through it, they work ok. you can control the depth with the speed of retrieve and pauses, keeping them just at the top of the grass. Remember, if you're not hanging up occasionally, you're not getting it close enough.

I've seen it before. Very good color scheme. I would bet it works well in rivers mostly. But when it comes to these KVD crankbaits, you should be able to throw it with confidence no matter where you are. Slow roll it first, and let the bait float up a very little bit on your stop, then slow roll again. This is a great bait!! Well worth the purchase.

A:
I was able to get some very small "smallies" on this 5/8 size, so I wouldn't doubt a river smallie would hit it.

This is way bigger than the baitfish in the water but the smallies and largemouths love it.

I'd say both! 1.5 when bite is tough,2.5 most of the time but really shines in the fall

Since they both run the same depth,3-5 feet,I prefer the smaller body size of the KVD1.5 3/8 oz.size bait over the larger KVD2.5 5/8 oz bait

Both baits only go 3-5 feet depth wise, so it depends really. I have the 2.5 inch Sexy Shad and Ghost Minnow, which I think the Bronze Backs will love. I will be getting a 1.5 inch Orange Belly Craw soon too. I think the 1.5 inch will be a good start, but both sizes are good. If you hit a nice hole, I'd do the 2.5 inch. If it is all shallows, then I would go 1.5 inch. Just my opinion. =D Godspeed in your adventures!

I got the 3/8 ounce one because I have used the Series 4S 3/8 ounce crankbait before in the tributary creek of a river and the current was going pretty fast and it handled well. The river should be much different from the creek that I was in. Hope you have good success with it!

I'm partial to the Sexy Sunfish, Bluegill and Chartreuse with black back. The first 2, because that's the type of forage that's in the waters I fish in. The latter is the color that KVD won the Classic with last year.

This depends on several factors. Water color, weather conditions and what the fish are feeding on.

I have used the KVDs and the Rapala's, and I would pick the KVDs anyday. The other brand that I have had success with as well is Bandit Lures: Flat Maxx, try there black and charteruse.

Not only those but the RC 1.5 and 2,5 Lucky Craft, this one blows them all out of the water and for half the price. I recommend changing the hooks out with the Gamakatsu short shank for a better landing percentage but other than that. Throw it and be ready!!!

I haven't tried the Strike King KVD but I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Xcalibur XCS. It looks like a copy of the RC 1.5.
