Strike King KVD Perfect Plastics Caffeine Shads
the complaints about this lure tearing to easily are true but i gotta say this lure is pretty good.the action when u jerk it and on the fall is killer.i live in upstate ny n alot of our lakes have LOTS of weeds.this thing is awesome for covering alotta weedy water. i tested this lure out a cpl times n i was killin the it while everyone else was catchin nothing. i ended up using up all of my baits cuz i was catchin so many fish.all in all i wish the lure was tougher but if thats the sacrifice i gotta make to catch some fish so be it.im gettin 6 more packs

not the best soft jerkbait
I have had so much success on soft jerkbaits from Zoom, Big Bite and YUM recently that I wanted to experiment and give these a try. I did catch several fish on these and I do like them because they sink much faster than a Super Fluke or Houdini Shad. They were also very soft in texture and obviously had the coffee scent. But the one thing I didn't like about these was the durability. Every fish was costing me one of them and by the end of the day I almost went through the whole pack. And for over $5 a pack you would expect more then that. Although they do catch fish, they don't perform much better then the Super Flukes. I can get the flukes for about $3 a pack and I get more of them. Bottom line: good lure, but stick with the flukes.

When I purchased the Strike King Caffeine Shad It wasn't long before I was at the pond across the road testing it out. I texas Rigged the Caffeine Shad using a 5/0 MiHatchii Offset Wide Gap hook. The rod and reel combo I used was an Abu Garcia Vendetta 7'3" heavy action rod for the strong hook pennitration and long casts that I needed and I pared that with a Browning Maxus with a 6.3:1 gear ratio equipped with 12lb test Berkley Vanish. While I was still getting used to the Caffeine Shad I got hit hard by quite a few good quality bass. I ended up catching only two bass that evening but only because I was pressed for time. The next evening, at a different pond, I ended up with just one bass because of the difficult pre-spawn conditions and the fact that I was ignorantly fishing too shallow instead of deeper. Sadly, I didn't figure that out until it was getting dark. Anyway, the way I fished the Caffeine Shad was by casting out, jerking 2 to 3 times, and then pausing for a moment. if that didn't work I would slow down by just jerking once pausing and repeating. Note, the very second you feel a strike, set the hook immediately or you will more than likely miss your fish. That was the reason that I was having so much trouble hooking bass in the beginning. The action in the salt filled Caffeine Shad is amazing giving it a real slow and seductive fall when it is paused. I really expect a lot of great things out of the Strike King Caffeine Shad and strongly believe that it is going to produce massive amounts of quality bass for millions of fishermen and pro anglers all over the country.
